lentil soup

Post by scrowley »

Its been now over a year since I got MC and decided yesterday to have my favourite homemade lentil soup with mixed veggis for the first time in a year,.
i have been doing well lately wth no issues.
anyway, within 4 hours, i was in misery, cramps nauseous an of course D.
never again.
do people have problems with lentils etc?
thanks,
sheila

Sorry that you had that reaction to a favorite food. Lentils are legumes. Virtually anyone who is sensitive to soy will also be sensitive to lentils.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Lentils kill me. Also have had horrible reaction to edamame. No problems with white/red kidney/pinto/black beans, or peanuts.

Edamame are soybeans. I can't do peanuts, so thanks for the heads-up on lentils. At this point, I haven't challenged anything but peanuts and peas. The peas I can tolerate, at least the small quantity I ate.

When I was not reacting, I was able to eat lentil soup occasionally. I never took a chance on eating it regularly. I also tested black beans when I was not reacting, and they were definitely out--no D but a lot of discomfort and some bloat. Now that I've lost remission, I've decided no legumes at all, forever. Sigh. After reading about all the anti-nutrients in beans, I guess it's not too much of a loss.

I eat the earth balance butter the one with soy in it all the time and never have a problem so I am wondering is it just the fiber content that killed me, never again!!!!!!!
thanks for the insight though.

I keep away from lentils and beans after a similar painful experience that had me doubled over in cramps.
