dairy

Post by scrowley »

O.k so I havent touched dairy since being diagonsed and even before.
I am wondering when you reach remission can you eat dairy for instance that is in a cake or something just not eat the milk/cheese/butter etc but in another food, so that give the same bad results?
thanks,

It depends on whether you're just lactose intolerant, because of the inflammation in your small intestine, (that's not a typo), or whether you're also casein-sensitive, like most of us.

A couple of years after I reached remission, I was able to start adding dairy products back into my diet, without any clinical symptoms, but when I ordered a casein test at EnteroLab, a couple of months ago, I found that I'm producing antibodies to casein, (even though I'm asymptomatic), so I cut it back out of my diet for good.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Sheila,
I cut out dairy last spring. I have recently been testing small amounts of cheese, so far with no bad result. I do not plan to go back to cow's milk, ice cream, half and half, butter, etc. I find I'm content with almond milk, and Earth Balance butter substitute.

But, I haven't had any testing. Reading Tex's post makes me wonder whether even trying to re-introduce a little cheese now and then is advisable.
