Blood Test Results Back

Post by Sharaine »

Hi Everyone,

I've been away from the board for about 2 weeks, trying to focus on getting my D under control. I took a member's (I can't remember her name, sorry) suggestion and contacted a naturopathic doctor. She drew blood to test for 95 food sensitivities. I have also done the fecal test through Doctors Data and am waiting on the results.

Today my naturopath called with results from my blood work. It shows eggs and almonds as my main problem, with green beans and kidney beans being low moderate issues. Brewer's yeast is also an issue. She said that grains looked OK, but agreed with me that those would be false because I haven't had any gluten grains in a year. Soy came back OK and the doctor suggested I try soy milk instead of the almond milk I have been using for the last year.

In addition, the doctor prescribed a protein powder mix that I use twice a day to assist in getting me up to my needed protein intake levels (for me, 49g). It's rice based and tastes pretty good.

I still have D daily, at least 4 times/day. The GE told me to take up to 16 mg of Imodium a day. I take at most 6mg, but it surely has given me some calm. I was also prescribed an anti-spasmodic (name escapes me as I type this) which has slowed down the spasms in my colon and, I think, slowed the progression of the D. Combined, at least I am not rushing to the toilet 20 times a day!

I've taken a shine to meat as my primary food. I'm also eating a great deal of apple sauce, eggs, almonds, cashew butter, and bananas. Obviously, eggs and almonds are out now. Sigh.

At any rate, I am most certainly better than I was a month ago.

I wish you all a wonderful spring.

Sounds encouraging.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Sharaine,

I'm glad your symptoms are less frequent. I hope you can gradually get better.

Gloria
You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
