Are these signs of healing??
HI to all,
Once again I need your advice and insight. I've been feeling well, for the most part. Any set-backs are short lived (a few hours) and that hasn't happened for a couple of weeks now. I definitely have more energy. I've added apples and prunes to help battle the C and again, I seem to be tolerating that change. Last night I went out to eat and tried a gluten free grilled pesto chicken breast and roasted potatoes at a local restaurant..... and I 'm still standing. Today I weighed and found I have gained 4 pounds. Wow! On the same bland diet I've been on since July.
So my question is: Am I healing? Is this what healing is like? More energy, absorbing nutrients (enough to actually gain weight), tolerating small amounts of fiber?
What do you think? Or am I being overly optimistic?
Carol

Sure, you're healing. You're showing all the signs.carolm wrote:So my question is: Am I healing? Is this what healing is like? More energy, absorbing nutrients (enough to actually gain weight), tolerating small amounts of fiber?

Congratulations, and I hope it continues.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Carolm,
Sounds like progress to me. Congrats! Less toilet runs, more energy, decreased stomach rumbles: all good signs. Don't get too down if it's one step forward and two steps back because that's the way it goes sometimes. Keep on truckin'

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. I truly cannot imagine where I would be without the information from this support group. It would be so hit-and-miss without knowing what others have done to be successful, especially the diet changes that are essential. I would probably still be on Entocort, still struggling to get through a day, struggling to get enough calories, and unaware of the diet issues that are causing inflammation.
Cory, I was thinking this morning of that very thing-- the unpredictability of MC or any autoimmune condition. How a 'trigger' can be a perfect storm of several seemingly harmless things-- stress, fatigue, a soy additive and some hidden dairy perhaps-- that could send me back into inflammation. I feel a little better armed and although disappointed I don't think I'll be as distressed as I was the first time because I know I can survive it.
Thanks so much,
Carol

Hi Carol. I'm so happy that you are feeling better. Being one of the few c dominant people on the board, it helps me to hear from you and know that healing can happen with diet and determination. I have managed to stay gluten, dairy, and soy free for about a month now. Haven't noticed too much difference yet- maybe a little but still seem to stay gassy a lot but hoping as inflammation settles, so will the gas. Anyway, thanks for your replies to me before and I pray that your healing continues.
Hugs,
Sondra

Sondra, yes the C dominance is a slippery slope isn't it? You can add a stool softener or some fiber but go just a tad too far and you'll have D, sometimes for a few days. So then you have to take Imodium to get through the day and you are back to C. I get C from just taking Sudafed! what a deal.
BTW every time I see your signature line I think "how did she know we've been looking to get a dog?". Our Jack Russell, who we adopted from our local humane society, passed away a year ago so we've been thinking it's time to add to the family again. We miss him terribly.
take care,
Carol

Hi Carol. I am so happy to hear you are thinking about adopting a rescue dog. They really are the best dogs (although I love them all!). Our boys are both "kill shelter" rescues who were severely abused and malnourished but we have had them 6 years now and they are both my little princes. I am sorry to hear about your Jack Russell. We lost out rescued Golden a little over a year ago and it brings me to tears every time I think about him. In fact, my D started right after we had to have him euthanized. It only lasted a couple weeks but the bloating lasted for at least a month then all was well for a few months, then we bought a house, moved, I started a new job, one thing after another within a very short time span and here I am 1 1/2 years later still dealing with the issue because I couldn't stay on the gluten free. I am determined to do it this time and hoping to see results!
You will have to post pix when you do decide to adopt your new furry baby!
Have a Blessed weekend,
