Hi Linda,
I'm using Entocort now too and it has helped. I tried the cholestyramine too and didn't notice anything at all. It gave me a mild stomach ache at times and that was about it but was worth a try. I'd start watching what you eat immediately because it will make a difference.
Zizzle is right- it does get easier. I still don't like it, but I no longer cry in the grocery store or at family gatherings and don't get mad at my family for being able to eat foods I cannot.
Zizzle- thanks for your comments about the time it took for you......it gives me encouragement. I think I may one that will take years to reach remission. I'm a bit jealous of posts of feeling better after a few weeks of being GF, etc. As long as I know there are others that made it after years- I can keep going.

Deb,
Don't feel alone. I've been going through this for 1 1/2 years and just got serious about gf about 5 weeks ago and I still am having the gas, bloating, some constipation. It's frustrating not seeing fast results but we are all different. I have to remind myself of that daily, believe me.
Hugs,
Sondra

Endecort update after cruising
Hi Everyone,
I've just returned from vacation which included a trans-Atlantic crossing on Holland America and a Caribbean short trip on Carnival. I have been living with MC symptions for some years and never found relief. After starting with Endecort and going gluten free/dairy free, I was hoping my MC symptions would lessen. It didn't take long for my body to begin to get better. I was very strict with no gluten and dairy to start. I saw an improvement within one week. On the Holland America ship a gastro problem spread like wildfire and I was one of the unlucky. I was happy that the illness on the ship did not put me back to where I started. I recovered quickly.
I've been on Endocort 6 weeks. My up and down bathroom routine in the morning including d is gone. I don't have cramps or discomfort anymore either. I still have some urgency but my body is processing what I eat and everything is pretty normal. I did have d yesterday for the first time in a month. I at cheddar cheese and it might have caused a problem. The d went away by the next morning.
I know I still have more healing to do. I'm being vigilent and cautious about what I consume. I've lost 14 pounds which puts me within 25 pounds of a healthy weight for my body. So pleased to be where I am today healthwise.
Holland America had food specially labeled for diabetics but nothing labeled for GF. I was able to preview the menu for the next day and make GF choices. They weren't very creative and food was pretty bland. GF pancakes were good though. They had GF cookies, bread, pizza, and flourless chocolate cake.
Carnival had nothing labeled GF. I previewed the menu for the following day and made choices. They had GF pizza, bread and GF flourless chocolate cake. The only twoGF desserts available were the choc cake and cheesecake (which I stayed away from). No cookies and really bad pancakes.
I'm on the road to recovery!

Hi Linda,
It's good to hear that overall, the trip went well, and it's great that you're doing so well on your recovery. I hope you continue to see good progress.
Thanks for an upbeat update,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Linda. Welcome back. It's great to hear that you had a good time and even better to hear that you are getting better! Your case of MC sounds very similar to mine. Entocort works very well for me also ( along with a GF/DF diet) and I have just stepped down to only 3mg. a day! I even have been trying out a few things. Fresh Mango and Mango sorbet are okay for me. I had some dark chocolate last night and was fine. Red potatoes- good. I can eat some popcorn too. things are looking up :)
I was wondering how you were doing, so I'm glad you checked in with us.
