Upper endoscopy. I am not a hypochondriac!
My hiatal hernia has reopened, and I have acute esophagitis. Prior to the procedure the doc told me that the the acute pain could be because of the esophageal equivalent of leaky gut.
Also, he has sent 3 biopsies for Barrett's assessment.
On the one hand I am glad to be vindicated. On the other I HATE that it takes forever and I have to fight to get the tests.
But the good news is it's done!

It could mean that. Maybe this time they can get it right, and the acid will be contained and the heartburn can stop. Then I can begin to recover.
After the surgery you can't eat at all for a few days, then only liquids, broths and stuff, and then soft stuff, like eggs, mashed potatoes and soft cheese. Except I can't eat eggs, broths or cheese.
Given my diet limitations it will be VERY hard, but I will have to do it.
I just have wait for the biopsy report and to talk to the docs.

Lesley, It's horrible that you had to go through what you did to get the test. I hope the Barrett's is negative and I hope the hernia repair can be done soon and you'll be able to live without the awful pain and aggrevation you've been through lately.

What is amazing to me is that I seemed to get such awful feedback when I talked about how bad my pain is. The docs seem to treat it as just me complaining again! For years I have had to prove that I have a high pain threshold, so when I complain of it (and I grant you that is often) I am in serious agony.
It's so hard to convince doctors even to do a test that can attest to the reason for this.
Thank you for your support, and for allowing me to whinge. And even more that that, cheering me on when I fight with the powers that be. Without having the knowledge and information to do it I would have folded long ago.

Thank goodness you finally have an answer, having had a previously diagnosed hiatal hernia your symptoms should have been considered an emergency all along. I hope they can take care of this soon.
