He helped one of the ladies to her recliner cus she couldnt walk!!!

So I told Lou think its time to get a *gun* and get ready to aim and fire???

Thankfully we have a good alarm----

Gotta get Calamity Jane to teach me how to *shoot* :bandevil:

Expect it would be terrible to think that someone is creeping around your bed as you sleep. My sister was broken into for the 2nd time recently. On both occasions there were people in the house. The first time is was just before xmas and her husband and son were asleep in the house. She was only gone 20 minutes and all her Xmas presents were gone from beneath the tree and her daughters purse and mobile. This time she had been on the net about 11pm and went out to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee. Bingo! when she got back she found that they had not only taken stuff from the room she had been in but had been in the room where her husband was sleeping. Scary stuff.

Barbara...if you purchase a gun, you need to go and take a class and get a conceal carry license. That way you will also be up on the law and how to use it. I reccomend classes and a license to anyone that owns a gun. I am sorry to hear that you have this going on in your community...that's a scarey situation. I was robbed once while I was asleep in an apartment...I woke up while it was going on...I played asleep. The guy took what he wanted and left...Then I called the police. At that time I had no gun. Now I have one above My bed. My kitchen sink, front door and in my truck. Be careful...Love Oma

Hi Mrs. Columbo,

If you need any information on a license to carry, or the courses that Oma mentioned, please let me know.

Be aware that NYS allows the issuance of such licenses, but NYC has draconian gun laws, and legal carry by honest civilians, in NYC, is almost impossible.

If you need any information on this topic, please let me know. Or, if you wish, we could discuss it in the chat room.

Luv,
Galahad

Isn't it awful that we even have to consider getting a gun? I was very young, 12, when it happened to me and the girls I was staying with. We had a PJ party, it was at 16 year olds home, and there were 6 of us there that night. Now we lived in a town that was very outdated when it came to phones, ours at home was the old fashioned type that is on the wall and has two bell type ringers on the bottom and it was wood with the receiver on the side, you had to turn the handle a couple of times and that would connect you to the operator in town, who would then connect you to whoever you were calling. Our phone number was 103, and that is how we could phone anyone. But at our friends home where our PJ party was, they owned a camp, and so they would often be down at their dock getting people off in their boats to head up the montreal river to where the camp was, so their particular phone was a bit different. When you cranked the phone it would ring, and it would ring outside so that if they were at the dock they would hear it and go up to answer it. So we couldn't very well dial out quietly to ask for help or the guy who was trying to break in would just hear it, disappear and when anyone came they would just laugh at us and perhaps tell us off for being silly school girls. This guy stalked the house all night long, knowing our predicament. He would try the windows and door, and just had us freaking out. At my age it really scared the living crap out of me. I even got a fever. My sister, who was the oldest and her friend had me sleep with them, so I wouldn't be so scared. But it had to be someone that knew the place to know what to do. He didn't get in, but it was one scary night. The next night, our friend stayed with her parents at a store they were minding, and the rest of us slept at our prospective homes. Well that night who ever it was did get in, and he did some really weird things to the girl that lived there, stuff. They made lipstick marks on her dads underwear, and put her picture in the crutch, and only her things were mostly effected. They literally dumped her things all over the place, but didn't take a thing. So that scared me even more. I ended up keeping a loaded gun under my bed for many years after. I think it does that to you. You don't want to end up being a victim ever again.

Anyway, ciau

and Hugs to all

It never ceases to amaze me what some people can do to other people and actually enjoy doing it. Gives me heartburn, big time.

So glad he didn't get in while you girls were there.

I am speechless. Yes, it IS horrible to have to think about having guns in the house. But, if you are, listen to Oma. Pistol Packing Mama. Or Wayne, the Fastest Cigar Smoker in the West.

If I ever had a weapon I would want a shotgun. A BIG double barreled one. My aim is terrible and would be worse when I was scared out of my wits. With a shotgun I would be sure to hit something.

I can't get over the Gentleman Burglar, though.

Nasty business.

Love,

Sally

Sally,

You are right on the money, as usual. For home defense, nothing settles a dispute more authoritatively than a shotgun. They're much more effective than a handgun, and easier to use, to boot. Only an idiot, or a drug-crazed felon, will remain aggressive, when staring into the business end of a shotgun. And, in the city, if you ever have to actually shoot someone, you don't have to worry about accidentally killing someonw 3 blocks away, because it's a relatively short-range weapon.

One of the biggest risks with a shotgun, is allowing the perpetrator to get too close, and grab the end of the barrel, and wrest it away from your grip. That's always a risk with any weapon. The first rule of self defense, is to NEVER let an intruder get that close.

That is weird about the behaviour of the gentleman burglar, isn't it. Strange things happen, sometimes. He must choose his victims very carefully; otherwise, sooner or later, he's going to pick the wrong house, and someone's going to end his carreer--permanently.

Love,
Wayne

Yes a gun is a wonderful thing  ...I'm still having a bit of trouble with having a gun in the house...but when we saw the Coydogs the other day, I guess I'm glad. But the night the cops showed up looking for our next door neighbor the drunk, I was also glad I saw that the stranger in the driveway was a cop before Geoff made it downstairs to meet them with his gun! He was too  .

Hope they catch this guy PDQ.

You are not allowed to own a gun here in Australia unless you are in a gun club or some thing. Ownership of guns of any type is strictly controlled. That leaves the ordinary citizen unarmed and the criminals are able to get them anyway. Years ago an old man was actually charged for shooting a man who he thought was going to break into his home. He eventually got off but it put him through a terrible time. Anyway they use knives and syringes to hold up banks and service stations if they can't get a gun, even a pretend one.

Thank you for your kind words, Wayne. But somehow I doubt if I am going over to Nordstrom's at the Washington Square Mall any time soon carrying a loaded sawed off 8 gauge shotgun!! Hahahahahaha!!!!

Love,

Sally

Not to mention the fact that I would get hauled off by the gendarmes!

Hahahahahaha. Yes, Sally, please don't do that. 8 gauge shotguns are illegal for any purposes other than collecting. Mere possession of a sawed-off shotgun is very illegal. And, it's illegal to carry a deadly weapon around in public places--that's called "brandishing" a deadly weapon.

We would really miss you around here--for many years. LOL.
