Sheila, I think I'm the one who referred to "weaning", it was just terminology, I have no knowledge of Celebrex. I do, however, have some experience with joint damage. Have you ever looked into Prolotherapy? It has worked miracles for me. Look into it. I cannot imagine there aren't doctors using this method of regenerating cartilage in Florida.
Resolved MC symptoms successfully w/L-Glutamine, Probiotics and Vitamins, GF since 8/'09. DX w/MC 10/'09.
Hi Phil,
I'll be honest when I found this website it seemed pretty "New Agey" and it took me a little while to wrap my mind around things.
Consider get started on GF this weekend, just think you'll be that much closer to healing. Here is Zizzles list that I found pretty helpful in Publix. http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewt ... 68&start=0
If you pick up groceries this weekend you'll be that much closer to feeling better, no?
Think steak, chicken, shrimp, potatoes, rice etc. Not so bad.
Depending on what the Docs say you'll have all bases covered. If you are allowed to go on Entocort you'll need to be GF when you finish the taper otherwise we are at petty high risk of relapse to WD.
If Entocort is not an option you can still achieve remission with diet alone.
Best wishes and keep us posted. Brandy

Thanks again to all for advice. I had my first day without Celebrex yesterday and was miserable from all the aches and pains the drug has been masking for the last 7ish years?
Finally gave in and took an Ultram at lunch yesterday and although I felt stupid for about an hour, it finally got rid of the pain. Since this is all new to me, I decided not to take any more after the weird feeling from the first dose, I didn't sleep well at all last night. Thinking it all must be related to not having the NSAIDS in my system for the first time in years.
Any others taking Ultram instead of Celebrex here? All advice is appreciated as I really need my sleep but I guess the aching preventing sleep is better than being up several times a night for the other problem?
Thanks again.
Phil

Hi Phil, I use Ultram as well. I have both MC (CC) and Crohns disease and more recently my rheumatologist is highly suspecting ankylosing spondylitis given the pain that I have in my lower back, knees and problems with my eyes. Ankylosing spondylitis also goes hand in hand with Crohns. So certainly I can understand the aches and pains of these autoimmune conditions...this has been an 'interesting week'
My recommendation is to give the diet a chance to work before hopping off of the meds. You don't need to taper off of Celebrex, but some of the forums do mention patients self tapering thier dose. Stopping the celebrex before your body can settle down from the gluten, will most likely mean thay you will have some pain.
From what I experienced and what many here have noticed, it takes several weeks to see the real benefits of a GF,SF and DF diet if you need all 3, certainly GF and most likely SF will be needed. The diet does need to be 100% true as any gluten can extend the time it will take to see some relief.
For me the ultram does help, but if I take it too close to bed time (3 hours) , I can't sleep very well. the Celebrex for the time being is probably a better choice.
I hope you are doing better soon...hang in there it does get better...not perfect but better.

Hi Phil,
I can't comment on the drugs as I have no experience with them.
Re: sleep issues. I found that changing my diet to the "few foods" diet really helped with the "night time" issues. i.e. The diet change took me from WD 10 x per 24 hours to only 1-3 x per day in a.m. It definitely helped with sleep issues and made the D much more manageable. It made a huge difference pretty quickly I think in a couple of days. Think some kind of protein, an overcooked veggie and either potato or rice. Eat it for breakfast, your morning snack, your lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. Then keep repeating the same foods for following days. Lick coconut oil off of spoon for fat. Adopting this routine made a huge difference for me in a day or two.
Re: Entocort--It helped me sleep....even on the extreme low taper doses.
Re: Reduction in joint pain. I was one of the ones that had elimination of joint pain. I think for me it was like 8-12 weeks before seeing the extreme results. One reason for the long time period is I'm guessing I had a fair amount of gluten contamination during that time. I was eating nacho chips and tacos at my local Mexican restaurant with a corn taco shell but I never asked what the ingredients were. Months later I asked at the restaurant and they said they were not "gluten free."
To help with sleep---if you can get some time on treadmill or walk outside that may provide some benefit. For much of last year I was too fatigued to drive to the gym so would end up walking in my neighborhood after work.
Best wishes Brandy
