Am I in remission?????

Hey Friends

I went gluten free 4-18 & dairy, egg & soy free 4-25. Norman has been around since 5-10 with a few small episodes of D (probably in response to stress or a hidden food or my pizza skins :roll: . I really feel good, just tired & my fibro is better too. Is this what remission looks like? :shock: Love & light, Rita

According to Webster's Dictionary - Remission means

'an abatement in intensity or degree (as in the manifestations of a disease)'

Based upon your description and the definition - I would say "yes". Remission is defined by people in different ways. You are definately doing much bettet than before and YEA that you are!

I hope you will continue on your road to wellness! It sounds like your symptoms are kept under control. I wonder if there is a difference in "remission" and "under control". Just thinking out loud here!

Either way, it's great that you are doing so well! Keep up the good work!

Hi Rita,

I agree with Mars that you are definitely in remission. You'll probaly feel better with each passing week, on the average. Sure, there will be occasional little setbacks, when you either slip up, or try something to see of it's "ok", and it's not; but in the long run, you should feel progressivly better and better, 'til one day you'll suddently realize "Hey, I'm as good as new!".

What wonderful news you are bringing to town tonight - you are in remission on a gf/df/sf/ef diet; isn't that GREAT :grin:
I am very happy for you, Rita - you've done an excellent job of getting your symptoms under control. You've apparently not been sleeping in class and your results came fast. The body always responds to what we do - including to what we eat. It either makes you or breaks you, doesn't it?

Well, I think you are fantastic :smile:

Rita, I don't have a real good picture of what your medical story is - I know you are relatively new on the board (the old board); are you taking any kind of medication? How many times per day did you have D before you started the diet? Do you think explosive D was/is your main symptom?

Again, I am all smiles and thumbs up - good luck being blown in your direction...... Can you feel it coming?!

Boy are you making me feel great!! :bear: My story is a long h/o autoimmune ds. Fibro for 15Y controlled with exercise & supplements. Thought I had IBS with episodic diarrhea but nothing big. Pretty much cast iron stomach & could eat anything. Vegetarian X30Y. Broke my ankle 2-10 on the way to LA to see my son. Didn't know it was FX & walked on it for 6D. Took MANY NSAIDS to keep me going. On 2-13 I was woken up with explosive diarrhea & so it began. The usual story of 20-30/day, afraid to leave the house, knowing where every BR along my route was & feeling like I couldn't go on. Had a colonoscopy (normal) 3-28 & the GI mentioned collagenous colitis. I started to research it & found you all. Listened & learned lots & decided to go gluten free & get the tests from Dr. Fine, including soy. When it all came back positive, I had already eliminated everything. Actually got the results MC & posible Crohns 4-11 & he started me on Asacol 2, twice/day. Gave me bad headaches & I stopped it 4-29 & just continued w/diet. Kept it really simple with turkey, baby food, broth & rice snaps for 3 weeks & then started adding other foods. No D since 5-10 except for maybe 3 VERY small bouts after stress or ? foods. The hardest thing for me was to give up being a vegetarian. Keep trying to eat meat & pork & just can't get it down. Doing ok with chicken & turkey. Can't even begin to tell you how much it has meant to me to read your stories & model your paths. If not for you all, I would probably still be having D & getting sick on drugs from the GI's. Wow, what a long winded story!! :conversation: Should probably move this to the other room. Rita, you GO girl!!

Your story brings tears to my eyes. You've been one heck of a trooper - I think your path to remission is the fastest I've heard of yet - and you have so many intolerances to top it off!!!

Don't let set backs discourage you - you are already a shining star and YOU did it, Rita, it was YOU who did all the hard work. You are an inspiration for us all and for all newbies yet to come.

I encourage you to list your story in a medical file or in a subdivision of the diet information room - perhaps we can have a subdivision of the diet room called testimonies or personal stories or something similar - just and idea. What do you think?

Congrats! (Ok Wayne, where is the bubbly emoticon?).

Fatigue usually takes the longest to go away, so it sounds like you are right on track. I'm so glad your fibro is feeling better too. I get so achy from gluten and I thought I might be headed for a dx of fibro one day. I started the gf diet more as preventative medicine and was so happy when it minimized my aches and pains.

Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration.

WAHOO! You did it, Babci! And it's no small accomplishment! And yes, you may be the quickest an MI has achieved remission. What an inspiration you are. Fantastic! Kudos! Way to go! Hurray! Three cheers!

P.S. Don't be alarmed if you have a flare at some point. Happens to the best of us. It's usually a hidden trigger that causes it, but it is also possible for new triggers to rear their ugly heads. I developed a tomato intolerance almost 3 years after eliminating all my other triggers. :cry:

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. :grin: Sounds to me based on others comments that you have acheived this quicker than anyone- what do ya think of that? I agree, the support here is invaluable.

I did not realize that you were a vegetarian and now intoducing meats and other things into your diet. I imagine this alone is a challenge but as time goes on it should get easier. I eat lot's of fish and chicken. There is another member here, Maggie who has been vegan for years.

As Polly mentioned, seems most of us have set backs from time to time so don't be discouraged if and when this happens. You have the staying power- and your a great inspiration to all of us.

Dear Rita,

1. You rock. Good job taking the bull by the horns.

2. I think your summary of your treatment strategy should be posted somewhere more easily referred to for newby's: when they ask what the best way to go about detecting intolerences, etc, then they have one model strategy to consider. We could post others, as well, because not everyone has followed the same road.

3. Really good information from Polly about what to watch out for next. Hey, I thought I was in remission, and have been knocked off my high horse a couple times just in 2 months time, because I keep finding out about other things! (Lately, sulfites.)
