Summer is Finally Here
The last time I checked, it was 107 here. Summer must have been delayed, it seems to be just getting started, in Central Texas, 'cause that's hotter than it's been in a long time, at least here locally.

Hi Tex. Boy that is hot. Is it a dry heat? Our problem when it gets really hot here is the humidity.I find that a dry heat is easier to bear. They reckon that up north in the summer they say they 'go troppo' Everyone slightly insane with the heat and the humidity.
Is that temp usual for your area. I thought that your temps would be starting to cool down at this time of year.

Hi Liz,
Yes, this is unusual for this time of year. We should be in the low 90s, or upper 80s by now. Normally, it it would be dry heat this time of year, also, but today we had high heat stress. This may be some of the leftover fallout from Rita, because it was only this hot in a rather narrow band, about a hundred and fifty miles long. The rest of the Texas was pretty much normal.
We're supposed to get a norther sometime tomorrow. I'm sure that added to the heat problem today.
Love,
Wayne

Here in the high country morning lows have been in the forties and afternoon highs are in the mid to high eighties. Great weather to rejoice in. Very dry is pretty much the norm since the summer monsoon coming up from the Gulf of California has pretty much faded away . Beginning to see temperatures below freezing above 8 thousand feet and some occasional snow flurries high up. The fall aspens in the higher peaks are magnificent this year since after several years of drought we have had a little more moisture this year. No frost in the city yet but yes it seems , fall is upon us. Time to start thinking about soups and stews, fall chores and buttoning up the house for winter

Morning Tex,
That is way too hot for man or beast. Stay in the A/C if you have it. It has been hotter than normal here but nothing like that. But Gee, we don't have any type of global warming do we?????????
Love, Maggie

WOW! Stay cool and hydrated, tex!
Matthew, I also love the change of seasons. I read once that the suicide rates are higher in states that have more of the same weather year round (without distinct season changes). Makes sense because the change always gives one a sense/chance of starting anew.

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
What I think is so weird is that we've been having such mild summers lately to have a spike at the beginning of official fall. Here fairly close to the coast, however, it wasn't nearly THAT hot.
We left S.W. Ft. Worth Tuesday about 11 AM by the time we'd serviced the car, and come through Waco and College Station on into SW Houston that afternoon, Wayne, so we weren't all that far from you as we passed by, I would imagine. Wow, I'm glad we didn't leave Monday! I'd actually even considered waiting til today when the cool front came through, just to make the drive a little easier as I anticipated having to stop frequently due to the need for staying gased up and hydrated, not to mention the extra potty breaks for Mom necessitating removing the wheelchair from the trunk on the hot pavement -- ouch! Also, I think the heat increases the stress on the car.
We really need to get a new A/C, so I'm hoping that we're now totally out of the 90's. Things seem much more typical today. I'd like to replace the A/C before we really need it for next summer, so hopefully, I'll get that done when prices are lowest in early spring, I guess. Which do you think would be the best month to get the best deal? I hate to get one too far in advance of summer as that way, we wouldn't have as much of the warranty left for the true test in the heaviest part of summer.
I'll be a nervous wreck about replacing that part of the A/C since the last time that was done, the company my dad hired caused the roof to burn off this house because they'd hooked the electric wires up incorrectly. My family had to move away from here for many months and endure all the hassle that goes with dealing with insurance companies and the contractors they contract with. I just CAN'T let THAT happen again! Unfortunately, the a/c guy that we trusted since then has recently retired, so I wouldn't know who to hire to put the new one in. I'm even considering hiring one to supervise the other -- two heads better than one and all that! For sure, better have an electrical inspector come out before turning the thing on.
Another thing I've been wanting to do is have the alarm company put in one of those heat sensor things in the attic. Those are supposed to give a really early warning if anything begins to smolder up there. Guess that way, I could switch off the power in time to save the house, not to mention US!
You think these things will never happen to ya, but once they HAVE happened to ya, it's a little more in the rhelm of possibilities.
Wow, do I get off on tangents!
Yours, Luce
