Something very weird..

Post by Lesley »

I grew up with very thick stick straight hair. Very blond when I was a child, darkening a bit when I grew up, but lightening every summer.

I always wanted curls, but not even with a perm did I ever get them. My hair resisted.

Up until about 5 years ago I colored my hair and put highlights in. One day I decided to stop coloring, and as it grew out I discovered that my brand of grey was a very light ashy sort of color, very shiny.
Because it has always been unmanageable I kept it pretty short, like in my picture.

I had a couple of lousy cuts, so decided to grow it out until I had long enough hair to restyle. As it grew I tried to control it by blow drying, but ended up with BIG hair, that wouldn't do anything I wanted. So I this last week I just washed it and let it dry naturally. And lo and behold! CURLS! I have curly, or more like wavy, hair! Where that came from is beyond me, but I would be glad if a few more dreams came true!

 Lucky you!! We need a "plus" once in a while and you have certainly had plenty of "minus" events.

Yeah! I wonder what caused it? What food I must not put back in so as not to have it go straight!

That is weird. I wish mine would curl and give me some body to my very fine, straight hair. I wear it short like your picture too.

Congrats on the curls, since you always wanted them. Letting my hair dry naturally works best for me when my hair is longer. I can use a blow dryer some when it is short. Hopefully will get a picture loaded as an avatar soon!

They aren't tight and frizzy. They are nice and big and soft. My son, Adam, says I have the same type of curls as he has, so I am taking after him. I will have to take a new picture to show you guys.

DD#2 has wavy hair and she is always straightening it. I just read that wavy hair is in style right now, but perms are not. So you are quite in style, and without needing a perm for it. Great news!

This curl thing is so weird to me. I am getting stopped by people asking me what I did. When I tell them it's wash and wear no one believes it, least of all me! My hairdresser in Israel will not believe it when he sees me. He tried so hard to give me a wave!

My hair is cheap to maintain right now, for which I am grateful!!!

I read on Dr. Rind's website that could be a thyroid problem. Of course, at this point, everything looks like a thyroid problem to me.

Seriously, that is great news. Something going right for a change.

LOL Marliss! I don't think I have thyroid problems, but if they cause your hair to curl it's (almost) worth it.

Hi Lesley,

Sooo happy for you - it sounds like a miracle  . Can't wait to see your updated picture in "curls".

Love,
Kari

P.S. I've had thyroid problems for 25 years, but have yet to see a curl on my head :).

I know 2 women whose hair grew in curly after chemotherapy, one whose hair remained her normal color and grew back in in ringlets and my SIL whose grew in completely white and curly, Lesley. Don't know how this would relate to MC or food intolerances, though.
Resolved MC symptoms successfully w/L-Glutamine, Probiotics and Vitamins, GF since 8/'09. DX w/MC 10/'09.

I've heard the chemotherapy response, but not a meat and potatoes one.

Deb, this is one odd illness!

Well, the color you've seen, but I will take a curly picture.
