Flying to stay with friend's

Post by Christine. »

I'm flying to Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri tomorrow morning from California to visit friends. I've read all the handy hints in this thread and feel I have plenty to eat until I can get to a store there. That's assuming TSA doesn't confiscate my olives (Polly's suggestion). The
Tough part will be sounding picky and difficult about eating our friend's food. They don't "get" the problem and don't understand why I won't even try Jane's famous spaghetti noodles. Also The Lake restaurants fry everything in cross-contaminated fryers with lots of pieces of glutinous breading floating in it. Oh well, the Immodium is packed and ready. Hopefully I can skate through the next few Days with no major flares. I had considered trying the Pepto challenge but things have been going so well I put it off. If I come home in a flare up, well Pepto here I come!

Fondly, chris

Hi Chris,
My biggest thing when I fly is to bring bottled water and stay extra-hydrated. I try to bring lots of gluten-free snacks and crackers with me. I did get 'glutened' last time I went to a friends vacation home. It's like you said, "they don't "get" the problem and don't understand" I try to downplay it and not talk about it much but I can see the perplexed looks on their faces - the ..."well, what does she eat?" looks.

Hope you have a good trip. My friends and family have been very supportive. People generally love to help if they get a chance to. My daughter is planning a flourless chocolate cake with berries at her wedding in August. Be aware with the pepto bismol. I developed tinnitus within the 1st week. I've been off it for another week but the tinnitus is still there.
