My success story

Post by Pat »

Dear Potty People family,

I haven't been an active member for awhile and I guess it's because I am doing so well now. I am different from most here but maybe my story will help someone. I have MC, specifically LC and CC. To make a very long story short I have had this for over 12 years now. I have been to 5 different GI doctors and have been told several things including IBS, nothing I can do for you, Mayo Clinic says to take out your colon, just live with it, and here take opium. I said No Thank You! Finally, my 5th GI has a brain. He repeated all tests and told me my LC was very high in the colon and into my small intestine. He put me on Pentasa 500 mg 3 X day. This helps a lot! I also take 1/2 imodium 3 X day and the newest addition Beano 2 tabs 3 X day. I have been buying Beano for my husband for years for when he eats beans. I finally read the box and discovered it helps with a whole lot more than beans. I used to have a lot of gas and would take Gas X and sometimes that didn't help. Taking Beano exactly as directed - with the first bite - makes a huge difference for me. I guess I am very deficient in the enzyme it supplies. I also did the MRT testing about a year ago and I follow those recommendations leaving out the red and yellow foods. This makes a huge difference also. I have 1 to 3 good size nearly normal BMs a day. I eat most everything except the red and yellows on the MRT test results. I have gained about 10 lbs and my friends and family tell me I look healthier and I know I feel much healthier.

Welcome to all the newbies! Hang in there because we are all different. Some have this because of taking a medication, some from food intolerances, some from bacterial infections, some from viruses. Sometimes it is a combination. Keep trying to find someone to help you.

Oh, Pat!

I am thrilled to see this update! Finally! You had such a rocky and difficult path to remission........you are indeed an inspiration. In every way. Kudos to you for perservering despite tremendous obstacles. Very interesting about the Beano. And I agree with you 100% about the value of MRT. I have been under severe stress the past 7 mo.with a terminally ill brother, and I credit the fact that my MC has been behaving to the MRT. I have been eating only "greens", actually the "lowest" greens (no yellows ands reds), and my gut has been acting normally. I think this is the first time in my life that stress has not negatively affected my gut.

Congrats to you, and may you continue to experience this well-deserved success!

Love,

Polly

Hi Pat,

Congratulations. It's great to read that you've finally found a winning combination.

You've proved that motivation and dedication will get results, and I hope that your remission lasts forever.

Thanks for the update.

Hi Pat,

I'm so glad that you've found a regimen that is giving you some relief and enabled you to gain 10 lbs. That's terrific news!

Are you no longer reacting to fruit? Would you say that you are no longer fructose intolerant?

Thanks to all for your replies. Hope all are doing well.

Yes, Polly, I agree that MRT is a huge factor. For awhile I kinda ignored it and it was not good, however, it is not the sole answer for me. The combination of Pentasa, Imodium, MRT, and Beano works for me. This combo might not work for someone else but it works for me. I would recommend each person seek what works for them. I tried to make what worked for others to work for me but it just didn't work that way. So sorry about your brother. I have thought about you often.

Mary Beth, Yes I do have my life back. I wondered if I was always going to be sick. Thank you so much for introducing us to MRT and encouraging me to go to another doctor.

Gloria, I don't know if I am fructose intolerant or not. My new doctor thinks that the inflammation in my small intestine caused those symptoms. He really questioned if I ever was fructose intolerant. I do know that I eat a banana every day. Never dreamed I would do that! I also eat an organic apple a couple of times a week. I still peel some of the skin. I stay away from the red and yellow fruits and vegetables on MRT. For me those are orange, watermelon, blueberry, cranberry, raspberry, and sweet potato. It's interesting but those were probably my favorites. I really only get about 2 servings of fruit a day if that. I depend more on vegetables and I do eat raw as much as possible. For instance, yesterday at lunch along with my baked chicken I had a raw salad of spinach, carrots, celery, and red bell pepper with a balsalmic vinegar and olive oil dressing. Spinach is on my red list and I have noticed that when I steamed it ( of course that means one would eat a whole lot more than if it is raw) my BMs were a little looser. So when I eat it raw I don't put that much in the salad. It is just a small serving and I certainly wouldn't eat that everyday. Before Beano one slice of red bell pepper would really bother me. As a matter of fact, it would show up undigested the next day. I think it helps me to digest a mulitude of foods. I can't believe I never tried this before! But I really think it is the combo for me. Hope you are doing better. Sorry, I just have not kept up on the board.

Pat,

Would you mind sharing the name of your Dr? I'm in Texas, too, and am hoping he's close. Was prescribed Entocort the other day by my dr. and about passed out when I heard how much it was going to cost me. I also don't think my guy is as open-minded.

Thanks!

Laura, You can order your Entocort (budesonide) through a Canadian pharmacy with a prescription or you can get it from India without a prescription. From India takes a little longer. I ordered a 6 month supply from Canada and it lasted me about 18 months because of reducing the dosage. You can find more info here on ordering it.

beano

Post by beni »

just to say I get gas and ordered Beano from amazon, when I read the list of ingredients I saw they contained wheat, probably in tiny amounts as itwas about at the end of the list, since I go to huge lengths to keep gluten out of my diet I sent them back and got a refund. Well done with your recovery, good news for us all, Beni
