Anybody got a good granola recipe?

Post by draperygoddess »

Sadly, Wal-Mart is no longer carrying the Udi's granola here, and that's the only brand I've found that I can tolerate. I can get it at Kroger, but it's $6.50 a bag there! So I want to try making my own. Anybody have a recipe they can share?

Sure, I have a super recipe. I assume you can eat oats? I will upload it to Dee's Kitchen in a few.

Okay, it's out there. It's a very forgiving recipe. If you can't do almonds, do another nut or leave it out. Since you can't do coconut, leave it out, or substitute dried mango or something.

My kids and their friends love this stuff. I have shared this recipe numerous times. Enjoy!

Cynthia,
I have been making granola for years. Once I figured out the basics I started to throw in all sorts of things to make it interesting.
The basic recipe is 7 cups of oats to one cup of oil, honey (0r sweetener) to taste, and one cup of 4-5 cups of seeds, nuts, dried fruit etc.
I throw in whatever I have on hand - pine nuts, sesame seed, sunflower seed etc. I used to use bran and wheatgerm, but obviously can't anymore.
I also used to love it with yogurt, but that's also out.
Oh well! It's delicious whatever I throw in.

Marliss and Lesley,

Thanks so much for sharing your recipes! I can't wait to experiment. If nothing else, it would be nice to have something different for breakfast!

Easy, and delicious. The most important thing to remember is to bake on LOW heat, and constantly toss to prevent burning, especially if you put the fruit in at the outset. Raisins, cranberries etc. burn easily. I tend to add them towards the end.

I just took a batch out of the oven. Very simple one. 3 cups of g/f oats, 1/2 cup honey, 1/8 tsp salt, 1 tsp.cinnamon, 1/2 cup coconut, unsweetened, 1/2 cup nuts. The last 2 ingredients are optional. Mix this together, put on an oiled cookie sheet and bake at 300* for 15 min. Stir and bake 10 more minutes. Cool and store. I had some Udi's granola with just oats, honey and oil and it was expensive. Lesley said to just make it myself so I did.
