Viktor Frankl Quote

Last weekend there was a Celebration of Life for a young man who was very special to a great number of other young people (and their parents) in the huge homeschooling community here in Washington and Oregon. Josh, 19, was amazingly wise, godly, and compassionate for his age, and constantly invested in his friends' lives and encouraged them not to compromise but to live for Christ in every avenue of life. He was hiking May 5th with one of his brothers and some other friends and slipped and fell into the Rogue River in southern Oregon, which was in spate with snow melt.

Anyway... at the Celebration of Life, his grandfather quoted Viktor Frankl. I was looking for that quote this morning and did not find it. I found this one, though, which I thought might be an encouragement to you today:

“We must never forget that we may also find meaning in life even when confronted with a hopeless situation, when facing a fate that cannot be changed. For what then matters is to bear witness to the uniquely human potential at its best, which is to transform a personal tragedy into a triumph, to turn one’s predicament into a human achievement. When we are no longer able to change a situation–just think of an incurable disease such as inoperable cancer–we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Dr. Viktor Frankl

Viktor Frankl is a writer who had the most profound effect on Adam. Especially since Jaki, my closest person in the world who died 2 1/2 years ago of breast cancer, introduced him to Frankl. She took his advice so as to make peace with her impending death.

This is a great quote!. Thanks so much for sharing it!. I especially like this part: "When we are no longer able to change a situation . . . We are challenged to change ourselves." I guess this is where I'm at right now - trying to change the situation still, but beginning to come to terms with the truth that I may be facing a challenge to change myself instead.
