Yep, I started taking it after I took a statin for a few months. I only take it twice a week, now (since it's been a long time since I took a statin).

I'm not an authority on it, but I don't believe it would hurt to try it. It seems to be more useful for cardiovascular health than anything else, but it does indeed have antioxidant properties that may provide benefits for many other purposes. Using COQ10, for example, may help to prevent Alzheimer's disease caused by the use of statins. That's just my opinion, but since COQ10 inhibits the oxidation of lipids, IMO that qualifies it for a role in preventing Alzheimer's. (Alzheimer's patients have a deficiency of lipids and fatty acids in their brains and their spinal fluid).

Jenny,
I have also been taking it for years. I am on a low dose statin so I take 100 mg twice a day. Country Life brand is very safe for me.

Since I am older, and older people don't use coQ10 as well, I take ubiquinol, which is the precursor to coQ10. I take 100 mg. a day. I don't know what it's doing for me, but my mother died of congestive heart failure, and my brother has been living, if you can call it that, with congestive heart failure for 11 years now. So I am hedging my bets...

If you are sensitive to soy, be sure to find a brand that does not have soybean oil in it. The brand I get is Healthy Origins, soy-free, non-GMO.

Hi Jenny,

I've been taking 60 mg of co q 10 daily for awhile. Given Tex's discussion of coq10 helping brain health I might push it up to 100 mg per day. Brandy

I remember reading that it is important not to suddenly stop taking CoQ10.

You need to wean off it or it can cause heart attacks!!!

I stopped it as I couldn't see it did anything for me.
