Nopalea

Post by DebE13 »

Anyone ever try the natural anti-inflammatory drink made from the nopal cactus? Of course, the brochure sings praise to the drink but it's also a big sales pitch. My mother got it for me & I'm reluctant to even try it. Part of me wants to because I'm all for giving something natural a try yet I don't want to undo the slowly gained progress I've made. Just curious if anyone has had any experiece with this.

Well, bless your Mom, Deb, for caring and probably being awake in the middle of the night to see the infomercial on this and caring enough to get out of bed and take out her credit card and order this for you. Lots of information out there on this stuff and you should research it and make your own conclusions. Doesn't sound like something that could hurt you except in the pocketbook, IMO.

Sorry if this is negative, but this is the business I work in, Infomercials, and some are legitimate and some are not. I have nothing to do with this one.

No apologies needed- opinions are what I'm looking for. My mom only paid $10 for S/H to try it so it isn't that big of a loss (she is such a sweetheart). I was just curious if anyone has tried it. I've spent thousands of dollars on supplements from doctors and non-doctors that I believe would be helpful to some but since none of them are familiar with MC they didn't do much for me. I hold no hard feelings towards them but I know there are tons of money-making products out there too. I am overly skeptical about everything now since my past experiences have been so disappointing. I'm sure I'm not alone in that feeling. I wouldn't mind trying it just to see if I notice anything but don't need to cause an unneeded flare. Thanks for the comments.

Stanz, lol.

Deb, your mom is a sweetheart! I would do what Stanz says and do your own research. Drink cautiously...

Oh, Marliss, you have no idea.

You wouldn't believe the number of products we've done infomercials on that are complete scams. Hair products, skin products, facial "beads", anti-aging products and then there are the exercise machines that don't work and keep breaking WHILE we're shooting the commercials. My favorite line from one shoot was when the Director told the talent, a famous Olympic athlete, "can you make it look like it takes some effort to do that?"

You may not know this, but Portland was the birthplace of the infomercial and continues to be infomercial central. The first infomercial ever made was for Soloflex, which was designed by a man who lives not far from me and is really a great machine. It was a hugely successful advertising campaign, and made lots of people I still work with millionaires. Unfortunately it also set off the explosion of the marketing of lots of stuff that is complete garbage.

It put my daughters through college and has made me a good living for almost 24 years now.

Buyer beware.

Not just the Simpsons and Infomercials, Gabes, besides that we also are the home of Grimm on NBC, Leverage on TNT and Portlandia on IFC. Portlandia is the quintessential "Portland" as much as it sometimes hurts to watch. I think you can access some of the shows from the IFC link, but this show is my personal favorite:

http://www.ifc.com/portlandia/videos/po ... -80-plates

We are the coffee-loving, recycling-freak, natural-food-loving, gluten-free-friendly, and also - once again - the biking capital of the world here. Be here or be square, sister.

We have a great crew base here and we fought long and hard to take the film industry back from Canada to the US, where LA had escaped to for many years. We're not the only State that has incentives now, but we are the closest city to LA that has State Film Incentives, so we are LA North, and they love it here, they can fly home to see the hubby or wife and kiddies on the weekend on a 2 hour flight. The economic impact here has been huge and Portland is the center of it all. William Hurt and Danny Glover live in my neighborhood and while I've never seen DG, I do run into WH at the grocery store once in awhile - he does local theater here now and is a really sweet man. He lives next door to my granddaughter's nanny and she loves him.

Come and visit, Gabes, it is a beautiful city.
