Hey guys..I'm sitting here at my brother in laws in Dallas waiting to go to the airport to fly back to Denver . We rode the MS 150 bike ride here this weekend and all went well with the ride and my gut!!
I've added cheese back into my diet on a limited basis and seem to be okay for now..dairy and soy were like 11/10 on the Enterolab testing..and I continue on pretty high dose probiotics daily...something like 250 billion units a day.. I always took a daily Align or Culturelle but started taking way more after I read "This Works, Crutches Dont" in January...one of my holistic coworkers forced the book on me! It sort of rambles but I thought her basic idea was good so I've given it a try and it seems to help...take that for whatever it's worth.

I pulled out my box of Culturelle from the fridge. An average pill as 10 million cells. Perhaps I have my math wrong. Are you taking around 2-1/2 of the foil cards a day, i.e. 3/4 of a box per day? It sounds like a lot but it sounds like it is working for you unless I have my math wrong. Brandy

Well, I initially went to the local health food store and bought capsules that were 50 billion and was taking 5 of those twice a day on an empty stomach. That is way pricey so I ended up ordering that same strength capsule from some manufacturer on the Internet for alot less and took those for a few months and started doing really well (still being gf/df/sf and taking glutamine religiously). I figured this just might be working so I did the math and ordered a 6 strain powder blend from a company called Custom Probiotics in Glendale California. I cut back to 250 billion units a day a couple weeks ago as things were getting a little "loose around the edges ". The book says basically that you need to start real high and progressively cut it in half when things get loose.
I have had wierd rashy stuff on my lower legs for years (and been to the dermatologist more than a few times for it) that waxed/waned but never really went away despite all sorts of treatment. I went gf in August but that didn't do anything for the rash either..guess what is TOTALLY gone now??? I am floored..

The odds are pretty high that you're jumping to the wrong conclusion. The GF diet doesn't cure all ills overnight -- it takes a while. The gut has to do some healing first, and healing progresses slowly, (for adults). If you've only been GF for nine months, that's about the right time frame for the gut to heal enough to produce some systemic effects, (such as resolution of skin issues). You're not the first to be on the GF diet for a few months and then try some supplement for a while and conclude that the supplement was the sole reason for improvement, when removing gluten, casein, and other food sensitivities from the diet was actually responsible.HockeyMom wrote:I went gf in August but that didn't do anything for the rash either..guess what is TOTALLY gone now??? You may be right Tex..but whatever is working..is working!! I have added dairy and soy back into my life and seem to tolerate it fine. Rash on my lower legs still gone and the wierd sunburn looking stuff on my thighs (where they get sun riding my bike ) seems to be fading. It really looked more vascular than a sunburn and didn't really fade over months/years.. I got to the point where I'd wear bike shorts covered by bike knickers or capris all over 70 sunscreen and still get it...dermatologist couldn't figure it out either.
We leave Saturday for Bike Ride Across Nebraska..this is the first year I've made and frozen all the dinners for our group..gf/df/almost sf!! I really feel good about not being at anyone's mercy with food this trip..I'm one of those goobers with a rack/bag on the back which allows me to carry food on the ride also..which is a biggie this year. This ride is really where everything started going way bad last year..
If I had a Potty People flag I would fly it on my bike for all the help and info I've gotten here!! You all rock..keep fighting the good fight!

We leave Saturday for Bike Ride Across Nebraska..this is the first year I've made and frozen all the dinners for our group..gf/df/almost sf!! I really feel good about not being at anyone's mercy with food this trip..I'm one of those goobers with a rack/bag on the back which allows me to carry food on the ride also..which is a biggie this year. This ride is really where everything started going way bad last year..
If I had a Potty People flag I would fly it on my bike for all the help and info I've gotten here!! You all rock..keep fighting the good fight!

I actually bought one of those Food Saver (seal a meal in my childhood ) deals and sealed all the food up in those bags which are boilable. Those get kept in coolers with dry ice. Works pretty well for a week. We revert to regular ice when we run out of dry ice!
Breakfast is OJ, almond milk/cereal and a banana! Boring but it will work!

I agree, once we work out a treatment plan that works for us, it's more than just a treatment plan -- it serves as a security blanket, as well, and changes should be made only after very careful testing.

I was out on my bike today and was loving every minute of it. For the last two summers I have hardly been out because of MC and not feeling strong enough. It felt so good to be out there today. It wasn't a long ride, but that's OK, it was a ride and felt great.
