Absorbing Chemicals Through Skin

Post by Arlene »

Hello everyone. I was reading Matthew's comment about absorbing chemicals through skin. There has been research done by Dr Samuel Epstein. He found that chemicals absorbed through skin can cause different types of cancer depending on what that item is. He came out with a book called the Safe Shoppers Bible. (He has a newer one out, but don't remember the name) It lists all the safe items out there to use. Did you know that there are mascaras out there with carcinogens?!? Anyway, I figured that if you can get cancer from these products, surely you can get digestive problems.

If you think about it, what about the birth control patch? It's absorbed through the skin. Or even the patch to help people quit smoking? They also have progesterone cream for women. These are all absorbed through the skin. Then you have to think about the fumes that a lot of chemicals release. What truly happens when you breath them in?

So, Matthew, I definitely agree with what you posted. I really believe that things we absorb through our skin can effect us. That's why people take antioxidants. They can get rid of free-radicals absorbed into our systems from everything, food, cleaning chemicals, smog, etc.

Don't know if I helped much. Just for a while there, this subject had been my passion.

Much love

Thank you for the information. I will have to see if I can find a copy of the book. It is always interesting to see where our passions will lead.
