Inflammation

Post by MBombardier »

Our church campout is this weekend and I have to start cooking in a few minutes, so in light of my weird search disability for this site, please forgive me if this topic has been covered umpteen times.

In light of my mother dying from congestive heart failure, and my brother's diagnosis of the same at age 49 (he's 60 now, just amazing he's doing so well, PTL) I asked the PCP on Monday to run a C-reactive protein test. It came out .70 on a range of 0-1.00.

So my question is: does the C-reactive protein level relate at all to MC inflammation? If so, are there threads relating C-reactive protein to MC that I could read? Or other resources?

Thanks in advance...

Hi Marliss,

There don't seem to be a lot of discussions where CRP is considered as a marker of MC. Theoretically it should be, but the correlation (or at least the magnitude of the effect) does not seem to be high. It seems to be more significant in heart-related issues. This is the only thread I could find that had any significant amount of "meat" in it:

The only time that my CRP has been checked was 2 years ago (5 months after my ileostomy surgery), and the result was 0.620 (normal range, 0.0 - 0.785).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
