Acupuncture?

Post by mzh »

Has anyone here tried it?

I went to a rheumatologist last Monday and we discussed pain management, among other things. I asked about acupuncture as an option. I was expecting to get a bad reaction about that but instead she was very enthusiastic about how acupuncture can help all sorts of things, including - her words - my digestive and sleep apnea issues! It's not usually covered by insurance, which is why she may not have mentioned it until I brought it up.

Well, I'm going to a highly-respected acupuncturist this coming Monday (Chinese, too!). This could be a very interesting option.

If you do a search of the archives of the board using the word 'acupuncture' you will see quite a few threads/discussions about this topic

i know that Joe attends acupuncture apts reguarly and Kari has used it to help identify and lessen her reaction to trigger ingredients

When Joe was in Australia almost 2 years ago saw the acupucturist that i attend, it was his first acupuncture apt and he did quite a bit research about it and did a write up. that post will be on the board somewhere.

hope the appointment goes well

Mzh, I have been using accupuncture as one of the tools in my 'toolbox' for about 2 years now since Gabes introduced me to it during a trip to Brisbane. Currently I go once a week to a local practitioner and it is helpful, not only for GI symptoms, but also to help with back and neck pain.

I view treatments like a acupuncture, diet, meds, BIA or chiropractic as tools that you can have in your toolbox to help with achieving and maintaining wellness. Not everyone is accepting of these treatment modalities, but for instance acupuncture has been studied in the medical field now for many years and the benefits are well understood. Harvard Medical School in Boston has had a multi year study and partnership with over 100 local practitioners and is now including this type of education right alongside the standard medical teachings. Here is a link to a thread I wrote a while back that looks at the science and efficacy of acupuncture.

For any of these treatments, whether it be diet or acupuncture, it does take personal commitment and work to maintain the discipline in order to see long lasting results.

Overall I would highly recommend acupuncture.

Thanks, guys. Actually, I did do a search on acupuncture and got zero results. (I almost always search topics before I post so I don't know what happened.) So, thanks for the link!

some of the discussion are not part of the main message board. they were based on other topic headings.

I did a search on the word acupunture and there are 146 discussions where acupuncture is mentioned.

PS I just saw that I spelled acupuncture incorrectly; as Gabes said, there are 146 results for it!

I have been seeing an accupuncturist for several months. I began with N.A.E.T. treatments, which helped dramatically with some of my food intolerances so that I can now eat more foods. Now I go once a month for maintenance. If things don't remain stabilized I would not hesitate going back more often. Among other things, it has helped a lot.
