I used to subscribe, back when I subscribed to a bunch of magazines, but I got to where I just didn't have time to read very many of them, so I dropped just about all of my subscriptions. It's a good magazine for anyone who has food sensitivities.

I enjoyed it very much for the year I got it. I read it from cover to cover. But when it expired, I didn't renew it.

I subscribed last summer, and I've enjoyed it so far...lots of tips and recipes for people like us who are GF and DF, among other intolerances. Reading the mainstream magazines like Family Circle is depressing, because we can't have anything they picture in their food sections. Living Without is just for us!

I agree with Pat, I am bored looking at other magazines in the beauty shop, doctors office etc. They are all ads for cosmetics and food we can't eat. Where Living Without I read from cover to cover. I kept the issues I received and occasionally look at them again. I also shared them with friends but always said I wanted them back again.

I was at a GF Expo in Phoenix last month and got free issues of two other magazines "DELIGHT gluten free" One year, 4 issues $18. and "GLUTEN-FREE LIVING". One year, 4 issues $20. Both nice magazines.

Cooking used to be my passion and trying new recipes was my favorite. I've lost all my zest for cooking and am in general sad about eating. Even the specialty magazines bum be out because I either don't have the ingredients or they contain dairy, eggs, or soy. Going GF would be a breeze. I'm hoping things will be better in a year or so and I may not be so limited. On the upside, I dont' have the severe sweet cravings that I struggled with daily and I don't feel the absolute anger at the dinner table now because I'm eating the same limited diet every meal.

If you're at the stage where you can experiment, I think you'd enjoy it.

Hi Deb,

Living Without handles mutiple intolerance issues and they do have a good selection of recipes. Make cooking a passion again.

I have never subscribed, mainly because I have SO many sensitivities that it is almost impossible to find safe recipes. But I have bought it off the rack at times after leafing through and finding appropriate recipes/articles.

Hugs,

Thanks Maggie- I'll have to give it another try, maybe it was just a bad day for me and one issue where I couldn't find anything. I'm finding my tolerance for my limitations is growing as it becomes routine that i can't eat most things and I'm less emotional about it.

:iagree:

I have about 7 GF cookbooks which I no longer use for the same reason.

Hi, all, I found that our local library has it, and I can check out any number of back issues. I have enjoyed reading it, and usually pick up a recipe or two, but I think it concentrates more on celiac problems, and too many of the recipes include dairy, soy, etc. Also, there are usually articles such as "keeping your child safe at summer camp" etc. which really doesn't apply to my problems.

The library has more than 50 books about GF cooking, and I've looked at many of them, but of course same problem re other ingredients. I'm happy if I can add one or two new recipes to my file.

After reading this thread, I picked up a copy of Living Without at Whole Foods when I was there yesterday. I liked it better than Gluten-Free Delight, which I currently subscribe to, but don't plan to continue. I was pleased to see that Beth Hillson, whom I know personally, is a food editor for Living Without--last time I saw her, she hadn't mentioned that. She was the original founder of Gluten-Free Pantry, which I believe is now owned by Glutino, a Canadian company.

I enjoy the magazine and got my favorite soup recipe, winter squash soup, from one issue. I am dropping my Cooks Illustrated magazine subscription because it is just too depressing to read all those wonderful recipes that I can no longer enjoy. Right now I hate ALL food.

I picked up Gluten Free Living at my grocery store today. I think any of these magazines might be uplifting to newbies maybe for a year subscription. I'm going to cancel my Food and Wine Magazine.

Here's a link where anyone can either subscribe to the magazine, or subscribe to a free "recipe of the week" e-mail (or both).

http://www.livingwithout.com/

One of the items listed under Resources is a page with ingredient substitutions.
