PP Family Get Together
Last night a few if us in the New England area had the wonderful opportunity to get together at a local restaurant that Jenny (jmayk8) recommended that does an excellent job at tailoring their menu and preparation techniques to insure a safe meal and a great night out. The staff at the restaurant took the time to ask and write down each of our intolerances and was careful to point out if a menu choice would be an issue, very professionally done. The name of the restaurant is Burtons Grill, they are mainly based in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and have one store in Virginia Beach.

I was impressed that the managers take charge of making sure that all food intolerances are addressed and even served on dedicated square edged plates and prepared in a separate part of the kitchen. Over even just the last 12 months there is seemingly an explosion in the awareness of dietary intolerances with more and more restaurants putting these services and precautions in place to insure a good, safe and fun night out.
Over the past just about 2 years I have had the opportunity to travel from half way around the world visiting with Gabes, to just up and down the east coast here and meet several of the PP members. One thing that strikes me is the quality, compassion, knowledge that is so prevalent amongst this group and that was certainly true for the folks I enjoyed an evening with last night.
I would like to say thanks to Jenny for setttng this get together up and of course to Nancy (nancyL) and Ted for making this a very special evening. It was great to listen to the stories of Nancy & Teds recent european cruise. We spent just about 3 hours eating and talking and could have gone on longer, although the line of folks waiting to be seated was starting to look quite hungry and aggressive LOL. Thanks to the group for a great evening out.
Of note to help with my, well there is no other way to put it, lack of cooking skills, Jenny and Nancy pointed out that I have been measuring my ingredients wrong....I had no idea that there was a liquids measuring cup and ones for measuring dry contents. I have especially, with larger recipes, been using a chefs kitchen scale that Gabes sent me and come to think of it those recipes work out ok, it's the ones where I try to use my one glasses Pyrex measuring cup that things are just 'off' and turn out less than edible at times....thats why we invented the grill I guess LOL.
I would certainly encourage others if they can to make the effort to meet up with other members in their areas or during travels if time permits, the experience is well worth the time.
Here is the 'obligatory' picture of the gang from last night (me still tryng to shed the 15 lbs that prednisone recently gave me as a generous 'gift')....
Thanks again to Jenny, Nancy and Ted, I had a great night and incredible meal ('Lobstaas' & Shrimp Scampi over rice noodles GF,SF)

Joe
I have to add to Joe's great post that it was a wonderful evening. It was nice meeting Jenny who is so sweet. Even when we all met for the first time, it was like meeting old friends. We are just so comfortable together and I'm sure it would be the same for other PP who live near each other. We just have a link that bonds us all together.
The food was also fantastic. I couldn't finish all of mine (chicken) so I brought it home and made chicken salad. It's always good if you can get two meals for the price of one. LOL

Looks WONDERFUL! One day I will get to the east coast and get to eat lobstaa. Not here in LA.
But pps on the west coast - let's get together one of these days. It would be GREAT to meet you in person, though I have never heard of a restaurant around here that accommodates food problems like Jennie's discovery does.

Thanks Joe for posting. It's a great idea.
I think I'll have to move shrimp up on my 'challenge list'. You mentioned shrimp scampi and I thought "OMG-- I haven't had scampi since... f-o-r-e-v-e-r." Definitely ready for some food additions.
