The Catholic Church's Obsession With Gluten
Hi All,
Once again they're in the news. This story pretty well says it all:

Clearly, gluten is addictive in more than just the conventional sense.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

This is an interesting one, although I haven't been for years, I know several of the diocese in the area do allow GF communion wafers. Overall the issue is just based on a strict interpretation of the symbology of what the wheat means and represents etc.. Overall just an outdated strict interpretation as rice being a grain would technically fit the description.

I'm with Maggie and Zizzle. This is just another issue that causes division where there should be love and acceptance.

Ditto Maggie. The Catholic Church has far bigger worries than gluten free communion Not that I wish celiac or gluten sensitivity on anyone, but having a higher up at the Vatican experience first hand what happens when you have it could go a long way in changing some very closed minds.

Actually, the diocese of Columbus did not ban the GF altar breads used for communion. they just asked us to use the approved ones from two sources that supply them to churches. Having MC myself, and as a pator of a Catholic Church in Dublin,Ohio and having gained great insight from this Board and from the research done here, I thought it would be good to clarify the issue.
