Pepto stopped working

Post by Rhyes »

Hello everyone, I hope all are doing well. Well, the Pepto stopped working. It sure was nice for a few days though :) Tex, you mentioned neurological side effects, what exactly do you mean. The reason I ask is that it seemed like my depression has gotten worse over the past couple of weeks. It's not so much feeling down, but feeling overwhelmed by everything. It seems I have lost all motivation and enjoyment for life. All I want to do is stay at home, alone. I'm not sure where this is coming from. Any ideas? I had an appointment this morning with my GP and she litterally said that she is at a loss. The don't know what to do. She is going to speak with the doctor and give me a call, but that really scares me. Anyway, I'm so mentally exhausted right now, I don't want to think about this (as if you can). Does anyone think I should stop the Pepto?

Hi,

Well, if the Pepto no longer works, there may not be much point in continuing to use it. I suppose that with neurological effects, just about anything is possible, but the neurological effects that most people experience are usually in the form of balance issues, vertigo, vision problems, headache or paresthesia -- IOW, physical symptoms rather than emotional symptoms.

Those emotional symptoms probably come from the disease itself. We all tend to feel overwhelmed when our treatment stops working and we don't know what to try next. And we certainly lose our motivation and enjoyment of life, when we're afraid to leave home. IMO, those emotional states are integrally connected with MC.

Rhyes, I don't remember--have you taken control of your diet and gone at least gluten-free? Something that helps me when I am feeling discouraged and depressed is taking a positive step of some kind like that. If you haven't, that may sound like something way beyond what you can do right now. But taking any kind of a positive step is like fighting back. It may be just a baby step, like going outside and sitting in the sun for a few minutes. If I can do something like that, it really helps me feel less overwhelmed. I really want to encourage you to just take a small, positive step of some kind to help you believe that you can overcome, that you can get your life back, and to not feel so overwhelmed.
