Why Doing Nothing is the Key to Happiness

Post by MBombardier »

We have talked often about how meditation (whatever form, it doesn't matter) helps with this disease. Here is another article:

The benefits of meditation have been well proven by science. Mediation reduces chronic pain, blood pressure, headaches, anxiety and depression.

It helps you lose weight, lowers cholesterol, increases sports performance, boosts immune function, relieves insomnia, increases serotonin, improves creativity, optimizes brain waves, helps in learning, focuses attention, increases productivity, enhances memory, and more.

Marliss,

Maybe it's just me, but somehow "boosts immune function" doesn't sound like such a great idea at the moment. ;). The rest I'll take, though!

I agree about meditation - the one thing I think is it's important to have something worthwhile to meditate on. "Emptying my mind" doesn't seem helpful for me. Focusing on the God who is in control of all the craziness going on around me - now THAT does help! What

Deanna,

Meditating on emptiness is part of the Buddhist tradition. It has a long history stretching back 2500 years. I have found it very helpful in my life. I think we each have to find our way through this life. There are many different paths to take. If they lead to an increase in kindness and compassion for oneself and for others, than they are a good thing.

I've found meditative yoga to be extremely helpful to healing. I've also used meditation tapes when traveling. If I was retired I would be doing meditative yoga every other day. Tai chi, Wild Goose, traditional prayer etc are some other options.

FOR THE MEN: My yoga classes have a significant number of men and I've been to several classes where the men outnumber the women.
