I found Canyon Bakehouse
and locally, no less. I bought 1 loaf of whole grain bread and 1 pkg of hamburger buns. I'm not going overboard on praise but I will say it tastes better than any other GF bread I've had so far.
However, I bought it about 3 days ago and have eaten some every day until today. The last two days I have had more heartburn than the last 2 weeks or more. I guess I'm just not supposed to eat grain or there is some grain in there that bothers me. It is also soy free so that isn't it.
I'm a little sad about this but that's the way this thing works, right. I did realize that a hamburger on a bun is not REALLY that much better than one on a plate. HaHa
By the way, I had a "routine" visit with my Nurse Practiciioner and told her I'm off Nexium and how I did it (the wrong way - cold turkey). She was glad I stopped taking it. She said we'd have to be vigilant about Barrett's though. I mentioned that I occasionally take a Nexium and she said don't - that one does't really do any good since it takes 3 - 4 days for it to really become effective. I don't really know if that's true. It always SEEMED to help.
Love, Shirley

I found it at my local Sprouts. It cost more that Udi's but I wanted to try it, so I bought one loaf of the whole grain bread. I've only eaten one piece so far, for breakfast this morning. The texture was nice, but it's a bit sweeter than I like. We're traveling tomorrow, and I plan use it to make a sandwich to take along for lunch.
The store didn't have any hamburger buns, but I'm used to eating hamburgers on a plate.
Sorry it's giving you heartburn, Shirley. Maybe, as Nancy suggested, your system can handle lesser amounts of it.

I'll probably try it again but not right away. It can stay in the freezer for now. Need a few days and hope I get over whatever is causing the gerd symptoms. I really don't want to go back on a PPI and I know I'll have to if I keep having constant heartburn.

Shirley, have you treated apple cider vinegar for the heartburn? Lots of people have success (including my oldest daugher, Lauren) drinking a little bit of apple cider vinegar. The theory is that the reason the valve opens is the stomach is not acidic enough. There is a website called Earth Clinic that has a lot of information about it.
Also, my experience going off the PPI I was on is that the heartburn was worse for a while until my stomach recovered from the PPI.

Shirley,
If the cider vinegar helps briefly (in my case I felt better for 10-15 minutes after taking it and then it came back), you might try taking Betaine HCl - the extra hydrochloric acid is stronger than the vinegar and lasts longer, plus it contains other helpful digestive enzymes. I take one pill with each meal and my GERD is much better.

Shirley,
I stopped Nexium cold turkey, but the heartburn got worse and worse, and then some. It was worse when I was even slightly hungry, but I also had acute pain on eating. I had an endoscopy, which showed acute esophagitis. I couldn't stand the pain anymore so I went back on Nexium.
I was out of them for a couple of days, and the pain came roaring back. I know, I know. Once I went back on them I created a dependency....blah, blah, but the pain was really bad even though I had been off them for a few months, and was getting worse.
I am really impressed you managed to go off them cold turkey. I wish it had worked for me.
