Going on Walk About.....Day 1
Well it's been a hectic few months with the medical and personal stresses and I'm looking forward to taking a week off and next week with the holiday on Wednesday looks like a good week.
Why I'm bringing this up, is that I thought I would try something different and just go a series of day trips with Nestlé and my camera and see what I can find. I had talked with NancyL and it appears there some good photo opportunities out their way in northern Massachsettes, so Nestle and I will be stopping in to visit with them one day next week.
I believe Jenny mentioned a good GF seafood place out on the coast (I'll have to look up that name). What I'm looking for is if any of the New England members can recommend places to go, good MC friendly restaurants or places to see that might be dog friendly. Additionally if anyone would like to meet for a meal or a coffee, that would be great, although fair warning "Nurse Nestlé" can be quite friendly and good natured LOL.
I will have to say having the opportunity to have met the many members that I have on this board over the last 2 years has been a great experience.
Please feel free to make suggestions and if you would like to meet up let me know, I'll be traveling around the New England area "On Walk About"
So if you see this golden retriever next week with a GF something or another in her mouth, chances are I'm chasing her

Hey Joe-Portland is VERY dog friendly and there are several seafood restaurants(Portland Lobster Co....very expensive for what you get but the view is incredible, right on the water and you can bring your dog) and organic, gluten free restaurants in the Old Port especially. There are also 3 dog parks, in addition to 1 of the beaches allows dogs off leash from 6-9am....I think, let me check on that. If you do make it up this far north, let me know as I'd love to meet up for coffee or lunch. I work parttime in the summers and I have 2 very friendly labradoodles.
Joe - If you want to venture as far as Brattleboro you are welcome here. Lots of scenery here and along the way. I especially recommend Harrisville NH, if you have never been there. Photographic opportunities abound. I don't go out to eat, not lately anyway and not since I have instituted this strict regimen so I can't recommend places to eat, but I would be happy to share a simple but free of all offending substances meal with you. My little Theo would love a visit from Nestle too I'm sure.

Cathy,
I used to live in Portland. I moved about 8 years ago. At that time there were not 3 dog parks. There was only one and it was really just a sandpit. This was right after they closed the west end cemetery to dogs. I guess things have changed for the better. I like Brattleboro but I miss Portland sometimes.

Portland sounds great!
Joe, the place I mentioned before is in Essex. It's called Woodman's...They have outdoor picnic tables so I wouldn't see why Nestle couldn't join you but, Im not positive. Also, I am not sure what kind of oil they fry the GF seafood in, I know you dont tolerate soy so, I would maybe ck on that too. I will be away next week, too bad!
Enjoy!!!

Lesley it has been a hot few days, not as bad up here as it has been down in the mid Atlantic stated. Today it's only about 93 and it's fairly dry with a breeze. It's supposed to cool down by Monday. I do like the weather in the north west, overall your summers are quite tolerabe.
Nancy thanks for the call, Thursday it is...I'll bring My ribs and some oven rotated veggies.
Polly I'll be sure to post a lot of pictures, I've got some new toys for my camera and am looking forward to giving them a workout!
Jenny safe travels, I'll check to see what type of oil they use, but am planning on stopping by there.
Cathy, I believe I will come up to Portland one day this week. At some point I need to head that way as a need to stop by the place up in Georgtown to fix a light switch, the current renters called. So I'm thinking coming through Portland eithier early in the week on on Friday, are you available any of those times?
Jean, my schedule hasn't fully firmed up yet, Brattleboro is a good drive, but it is very picturesque up there. Let me see how things are going but it is possible to head that way. I'll PM you any updates. Thank you so much for the offer.

Jean, I was just going over the maps and such and out to Brattleboro you are only about 75 miles. I could come out route 101 through Keene and be there in about 2 hours. I'm in Manchester NH so it's not too bad at all.
If you are still interested in a visit with Nestlé and I let me know. Most likely Tuesday would be best, thats if you are up to it.
Thanks again

Hi Joe,
Tuesday works for me. That sounds right, about 2 hrs via 101. I'll PM you with an address and directions and a phone number. Theo will be excited to meet Nestle. Theo is an extremely friendly dog. My cooking at the moment is very plain, very few ingredients, healthy but far from gourmet. I am looking forward to meeting you.

I think it's great how ya'll are getting together. I remember the first time I connected with a forum group. It was after Hurricane Ivan( 2004) and we posted a meeting. Everyone arrived very apprehensive, wondering if things were really what we thought. They were. I've established some very important friends as a result of this. I wish I could join you. Deb

Jean-I LOVE Portland. We live in Windham, in the country about 15 minutes outside of Portland. I know about the 1 dog park that you speak of that's off St. John Street but there is also an off leash park (Quarry Park, i think) that is several acres of woods and 2 areas, 1 for smaller dogs and one for larger ones to play.
