Is it possible to be allergic to alcohol?
For as long as I can remember, I hated alcohol. Could never understand what people saw in it. Beer smelled like skunk and tasted like pee! Forget wine. Yuk! Hard alcohol, even the tiniest amounts made me feel like I instantly had the flu- achey body and my head felt like one of those "bobble" heads! So, is it possible to be allergic to it? And if you can be, what was I allergic to? The sulfites? The mold? Is there even a test for alcohol allergies? Just curious how many people here don't drink because they can't and if it ever affected their MC.

I cant tolerate it either. I could in the past though. I never drank beer, I agree with you on the taste of it. However, within the last 2 or so years whenever I drank I got a red/hot face. I contribute it to my mast cell 'issues'. Also, the next day my stomach/D was terrible. I wouldn't even drink much, only 1 or 2 drinks.

I don't handle alcohol well either. Usually if I stick to one drink I'm fine, but more than that and my stomach swells up like a balloon and starts cramping. My roommate has a salicylate allergy where if she drinks anything other than whisky or vodka she often winds up throwing up all night, but that sounds different from what you're experiencing. I think alcohol is just hard on the system, especially ours!
Well, I never could understand why people loved how alcohol made them feel. It relaxed them, or made them sad, or silly.... If I sipped any alcohol, I felt like I got hit by a baseball bat! The ache was unreal. My stomach felt fine, but my body! My arms felt like lead and I felt like I couldn't keep my head from tilting! Then I got so tired, I just wanted to sleep. Mind you, this is after a few sips!
I've always wondered why I've reacted like this.

Alcohol never made me sick, but I never could stand the taste of it (accidentally tried a rum and Coke once when I was 10 - after that I could always taste even the tiniest bit of alcohol in anything). So I never drank enough to even know how my body would react.
Sorry I can't help on this one.
