I know I have seen a couple of comments about mouth sores here but not a lot of discussion.
I must have eaten something that got me a couple of days ago, as I had D for a few hours the last 2 mornings. I also simultaneously developed a new mouth sore each day. Are many of you bothered with them? Do you think it is triggered by contact with the offending food? or a symptom of inflammation caused by mc?
I have pretty well controlled my symptoms by diet alone and thought I was on the road to remission. I hope flares like this don't represent a setback in progress after all my careful "food management".

Christine,
Mouth sores are common with MC. They are caused by a mast cell response to a food antigen. Mast cell activation is ultimately responsible for the inflammation that causes MC, (IMO).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Ok. Thanks Tex. I finally went back and read some info about mast cells, their release of histamine in response to antigens and the resulting inflammation. I would assume that most everyone with allergies, as well as those with any autoimmune disease has mast cell issues to some extent.
I'll try to read first and ask questions later......sorry to ask dumb questions.

That's not a dumb question at all because they are a frequent problem for many of us, and most doctors are totally unaware of the connection with MC.
Besides, there are no dumb questions on this board.
