A new computer?! How exciting! What kind did you get?
Have you had a chance to view Pete's Pond? I am dissapointed that the site will go down in mid to late November. The rainy season starts then and water is abundant elsewhere on the reserve. Hopefully they will begin again when the rainy season ends.
PS - You won't know what to do with a computer that makes sounds! It's gonna scare you for awhile!

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." -- Buddha
Morning Mars,
I just got an el cheapo, (emachines), but I got the fastest one I could find, with the features I wanted, and then souped it up a little. LOL. I couldn't find a good computer set up the way I wanted it. I'm a big fan of AMD processors, and most of the machines with the other features I wanted, had Intel preocessors. After adding everything I wanted, it's no longer an el cheapo, but at least it seems to perform just fine, and does everything I want.
You're right, after being without any sound for a couple of years, it's almost like discovering the wonders of computer audio all over again. I'm even thinking about adding music to the board. I wonder if that would appeal to anyone?
I'll certainly miss the pond. I've noticed lately that fairly often, the webcam is offline at sunup, due to problems. It was off again last night, (sunup in Botswana is about 11 pm CDT) Dang it.
One thing that puzzles me is the fact that I've never noticed any predators at the waterhole. I'm wondering if they have a predator control program in place, or it's just a coincidence. Have you ever seen any lions, leopards, cheetas, hyenas, etc.? I've never seen any baboons there, either, which kind of puzzles me, since they mention having to make the camera enclosure baboon-proof. No buffalo, either.

P S I removed all the Norton's, (Symantec), anti-virus and security junk, and the McAfee stuff, and replaced it with EZ Antivirus, (by Computer Associates), and it now boots lickety-split, and shuts down in just a few seconds, instead of the long, drawn-out routine that it wanted to go through when I first got it. Mucho mas bueno.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I've never seen any cats but have seen hyena and fox and the crocodile.
I have seen Baboons once. They were back near the tree line and didn't come close to the water.
I have seen elephants, osterich and zebra today. I've also seen a lot of Wildebeest, worthog and Impala most days. Some days seem to be more active than others. It is still addicting to me and I watch daily.
Your computer sounds great! Music would be interesting......
what will it do?

I'll have to try to check in on the pond more often. I didn't think there would be any crocs in there, since it's a man-made pond--that's interesting.
The music would just provide background music, while you're reading posts.

Hi Katy,
I'm well aware that there are quite a few members who check the board while at work, plus the possibility that background music may be just plain irritating to some individuals.
If I were to add a feature such as that, let me assure you that it would be user-selectable, with the default set to off.

New computer Tex? That's super!
The one I'm on now is an Emachine which is about 4 years old- its been a great computer, no real problems and my father upgraded it so it's speedy. Actually, most of my computer problems are due to my internet provider or wireless router. I think you will really enjoy that machine and have fun with it.
I think music would be a great addition to this site.
Can I get a link to Petes Pond? I'd like to check it out.
Love,
Joanna
