Hi Z!
Great news! Whew! I vote for mycoplasma, since viral would most likely be more generalized and not limited to one lobe.
And I vote for Bubbies sauerkraut too - the best! I find it at Whole Foods.
I'll bet you are all sleeping better now.
Love,
Polly

Polly,
Assuming it is mcoplasma, is the 5 day Zpak enough to eradicate it? And should we continue with the full 10 days of Augmentin? I'd be in favor of increasing one and dropping the other if it made sense to the ped. He's truly seeming fine now, except for a lingering junky cough, which I understand could last for weeks.
It's so good to have him back, although I may miss the helpless little boy camped out on the couch. He lost a pound off his little 48 lbs frame, so it's time to fatten him up. Luckily, no D today. No BM at all actually.
Mom needs a vacation from kids and grandparents! The Inlaws just left today after a 5-day visit with my parents. FULL house!! But no drama.

Hi Z!
My advice in this case would be "don't argue with success".......continue with both antibiotics for now (especially since the actual bug was never identified). I would guess the 5 day Z pack would be enough - remember, it provides blood levels for 10 full days. Glad things are so much better.
Hugs,
Polly

Just learned my husband's Grandma broke her hip and pelvis in 3 places falling out of bed this morning. She's in a crappy hospital in upstate NY with little hope of transfer to the better hospital for surgery. She's 94 and has congestive heart failure I know what her wishes would be -- a peaceful exit, but who knows what the medical protocol is for these situations. Treat until you kill the helpless senior? Hubby is on a business trip to Florida and may fly back to NY instead of here. The whole family is mobilizing. Yup, when it rains...
It breaks my heart to think of Grandma worrying over my son (her favorite Great Grandchild) all these days. She called everyday and prayed so hard for him. My MIL is on her way to sign a DNR order. She's her medical proxy and a certified geriatrician. Grandma also has aortic stenosis. Now we wonder if she'll make it through the day on all these pain meds and sedation.
Lord, I ask, in your mighty name, to sending guardian and warring angels to surround Zizzle's grandma. Keep her safe and secure, free from any harm, physical or mental. In the mighty name of Jesus, i ask for a complete healing of her injuries and to give supernatural knowledge, medical expertise and care to her nurses and doctors as they treat her in the coming days and weeks.
Zizzle, I am so sorry for all that has happened to you and your family. I will be "heading upstairs" tonight with prayers for you, your son and your grandma.

Your family is my prayers, Zizzle. That old expression, "If it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger", applies to you and your family as you go from one crisis to another. I am so sorry.

Great Grandma might be getting the surgery later today. Her clotting is back to normal, and they are waiting for the ortho. They will do the 30 minute procedure under spinal anesthesia (with sedation I imagine?). We hear the surgeon is good, and does these all the time. Recovery will be in a nursing home with PT for 8 months!! Apparently Great Grandma was awake and comfortable when she said she would do whatever it takes. That surprised me. She lived with an abusive husband until he developed dementia and eventually died some 10 years ago. She's been trying to live the life she missed ever since, so I guess she truly has a will to live, even though her body is falling apart in every way.
