Flare or Virus??

Post by Sheila »

Last Friday I had lunch at a wonderful restaurant with friends. The restaurant advertised GF pasta and I thought I would have few problems finding something to eat. Wrong. To make a long story short, I had the GF pasta and at least 5 foods that are either red or yellow and probably soy. :mallet: On top of that I had a frozen peach bellini.

The five "bad" things I ate have been absent from my diet since I got the results of the MRT test, 2 weeks ago. I haven't knowingly eaten soy in over a year.

About 5 hours after lunch I started to feel unwell but not terrible, a mild headache started (soy) and mild nausea. Didn't feel too bad on Saturday but on Sunday the headache intensified to very painful and my temperature started to creep up. I had pain in my chest and back, the backs of my legs, wrists and was so tired I slept most of the day, very nauseous. I also noticed a lot of gurgling but no D. Monday was a repeat of Sunday and my temperature went down as the day wore on. Today I feel better but have slept a lot and still feel discomfort in my chest and upper back and a total lack of energy that is much worse in the morning.

Perhaps this was a combination of a flare and non-relevent virus. Since starting the paleo diet I have noticed painful digestion problems after eating a protein heavy meal. I tried taking Betaine HCL and that made me feel so much worse I took Tums and began to feel better. I'm still taking one entocort a day and trying to cut back to every other day.

Any ideas?

Hi Sheila,

That sure sounds as though a virus might be involved, or as you say, it could be a combination of a virus and a reaction.

I hope it doesn't last long, whatever it is.

Hi Sheila,

My restaurant flares are generally pretty severe. No GI issues but nausea, extreme headaches, neck aches, and extreme fatigue for 1-2 days so could have been a flare.

Hope you feel better!

PS. I picked up some pecan meal at the produce section of Publix. The price was much less than Bob's for nut meals. I'm not sure how I'm going to use it but I guess I'll figure that out.

Thanks Brandy. I think it was a combination of flare and virus. Still don't feel really well. It helps to know how others react as a way of gauging what the heck is going on in my body.

I've never seen pecan meal at my local Publix. I don't go to the Greenwise because Whole Foods has a much larger stock of everything I need and is more reliable. Publix Greenwise seems to run out of stuff and not replenish and/or they don't sell enough of something and it gets stale.

Pecans and walnuts are yellow for me and I'm substituting hazelnuts, pistachios, almonds etc. I almost wish I hadn't done the MRT. My food choices are so limited and I'm continuing to lose weight. The zombies will be after me shortly.
