New Restaurant Concept

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Target is opening a trial restaurant with an innovative new concept.
When it opens its newest Target — dubbed CityTarget — in downtown Chicago Wednesday, the store will have something more inside than gleaming floors and shiny shelving: a better-for-you restaurant.

. . . . . . . .

It's called Pret A Manger ("Ready to Eat" in French), a tiny but respected chain recognized for quality food made fresh daily with natural ingredients.

That's right, a Target store with a restaurant inside that sells only preservative-free food, antibiotic-free meats, items made with cage-free eggs and even vegan salads.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I hope it's wildly successful and others soon jump on board.

I'll let you know. My daughter is a store manager at Target. I will ask her tonight.

Pret a Manger is all over NYC and also has Washington DC and Chicago locations. A nice quick lunch choice for travelers on the go. I believe they were also in London last time I was there. Sounds like going into Target is a new thing for them.

I hope it works for them. I'd love to see people eating healthier.

Hmm. I'm going to a museum in Chicago tomorrow with my daughters, husband and grands. I didn't realize that the new Target would have a healthy restaurant. DD#1 would love to eat there; DD#2 just said she bets no one will eat there. Did I really raise both these women together?

Gloria, before you leave, google Pret a Manger. In Chicago, they aren't just in Target.

Just talked to my daughter. She said this is a test for that particular Target store; several Target stores around the nation have different "concepts" that they try out to see if it is feasible/popular. If it is, they then incorporate them into other stores. Let it be known that these concept stores inside Target don't hire their own people, it is Target employees (aka teenagers) who run the show. So, think of that, the next time you order your food.

Yes, the Pret A Manger restaurant chain is well established -- it's only new to Target. That's kind of disappointing news that the staff in the Target store may not be trained by the restaurant chain.

Pret-A-Manger is a gluten fest. We have them all over DC. I won't eat anything in there, and it's overpriced. But it sure would beat the Pizza Hut garbage fest at my local Target!! And my future sister in-law is one of the managers too!

Back from the museum at 9:30 p.m. - we didn't have a chance to stop at Target. We ate at an IHOP on the way home. I brought my 12v crock pot and heated a bratwurst, tortilla and sauerkraut between the museum and the IHOP. I brought the entire crock pot w/contents into the restaurant. It's the first time I've eaten sauerkraut in years. Man, it's sour! We'll see if I react tomorrow.

Zizzle,
Thanks for the warning about the gluten. Sigh. When will these places get a clue?

Gloria - I love the idea of the crockpot!

There was an article in one of the Israeli papers lately about the plethora of gluten free food available in Israel, which is a gastronomical mecca anyway.
I won't be able to eat there because of my multiple problems, but it's nice to know.
