swollen ankles

Post by mickjcat »

I was wondering if anyone else has swollen ankles?
Before I was diagnosed, I started to notice that I was having swollen ankles, it just seemed to coincide with the onset of the diahrria. They go down at night and I elevate them in the evening.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.,
Mickey

I have them too but I think it's because of age, small broken veins in there and from being injured a few times. Not only do I sprain my ankles a lot, my greyhounds like to jump on the bed in the AM and don't mind stomping on my ankles to get there.

Well, I was hoping someone else would be the one to say this... swollen ankles MAY be a sign of congestive heart failure. They could be absolutely nothing--summer time, too much salt, riding in an airplane, etc., but I suggest you see your doctor.

My mother and my paternal grandmother died of congestive heart failure, and my brother, who is 60, was diagnosed with it when he was 49. So I'm probably hyper-aware of anything that looks like a symptom of the disease. Still... I hope you go to the doctor and let him look at them.

I should have mentioned that but I didn't, probably b/c I don't have congestive heart failure. It seems to be strictly a mechanical problem with me - so far anyway.

Lesley,
Did it seem that it correlated with your colitis onset?
