I too had ADM till the muscles hit in 2011. I am healing and tapering my steroids with the Dr. Joel Furhman Super Immunity Diet. I saw a nutrition as medicine physician and he said "your body is reacting to skin and muscle, why would you ever put that in your mouth again" and i was done. VEgan for me these days and i love it. I am getting stronger and my labs have nearly turned around. sjogrens and slceroderma just gone. RA from low to gone. I feel better than i have in 20 years. I had the rash smoldering from 20006 or before, and did not start any treatment until the muscles degenerated quickly within a week i went from go go momma to no go momma and i was barely able to leave the house for months. I urge you to research some, and check out Dr. Joel Furhman. I don't think the Paleo diet will be good for a body having an immune reaction to muscles and skin. I was advised to also take probiotics from the pharmacy. i take VSL #3, which you can look up online. It is over the counter but you have to ask the pharmacy staff, it is kept in their fridge. My digestion is normal for the first time in 20 years. Gluten free did not help me much, i did a 90 day trial, but this vegetarian diet is amazing. It is gluten free but for me that is just a byproduct of eating clean and nutrient dense. I am now tolerating more sun and doing more than i have since my muscles melted. I have been able to regain my strength and am working to get more endurance.

Dr. Joel Furhman's Superimmunity diet
Has anyone read about or tried Dr. Joel Fuhrman's Superimmunity diet? My health-conscious aunt was just recommending it for me, and I recently came across a forum post of a woman curing her Dermatomyositis with it. Problem is, she's vegan, and vegan ain't for me. Here is her post. Do you think there is any validity to the notion that if you are reacting to your own skin and muscle, you shouldn't eat animal skin and muscle? DM is a form of vasculitis of the small capilaries in the skin and muscle.
I found the autoimmune protocol basics. Not too bad. It eliminates dairy and wheat, which I’ve already done. Doesn’t stress the vegan part too much. I can definitely do the blended soups with my hand blender and I definitely want a juicer! Does anyone recommend a semi-affordable juicer? I’m going to try taking take VSL#3 (I take Culturelle now). I already take fish oil, D, turmeric. Need to add ginger, quercetin and bioflavanoids (I used to take them). I’ll do anything to stop this %#$&$# itching!!

Zizzle, it's not really considered affordable but a VitaMix is really versatile. Sometimes you can get a good deal at Costco. It will totally disintegrate seeds and such and is so much more practical than a juicer. For example, you can put in a bunch of veggies, run it for a while and you can end up with hot soup!
