Entocort step dosing
Hi PP's
I went to my GP doc today because of swollen ankles and feet, plus I am developing a moon face from the Entocort. She wants me to step down from taking the Entocort, which was prescribed by my GI doc. She said obviously it is getting into my whole system, and I do have osteopenia, she doesn't like the steroid usage for me.
I have been taking it for about 3 weeks with a very low residue diet, with great results. I am adding in new foods and no problems.
Anyhow, she is putting me on a 5 day run of Lasix, with a 10 day run of prescription potassium, to ease the water build up. She put me on Pro-Enz, and a supplement called Phosphatidylserine. I am continuning my gluatagenics and hopefully I can do this with diet alone soon....and maybe some supplements
I am on 6mgs of Entocort, do you think a lowering dose of 6mg, one day 3mg next day, back up to 6mg next day then back down to 3mgs for 2 weeks, then 3mg for 2 weeks is an ok step down method?
I am taking various other supplements also, fish oil, calcium, Vitamin D, and b-12. I am going to start adding back some probiotics in soon too.
Jeez, it is like being a mad chemist isn't it?

I am hopeful that I can step down and maintain my gut, but I also will follow the symptons my body tells me. I too, have insurance that will pay for the lion share of the Entocort. I think I will always have some as a back up. Although, I do want to do it with diet.
By the way, has anyone had a Spectra Cell Micronutrient Test? I am getting that done to see how I am absorbing my nutrients.
Thanks gals for your support.

Mickey,
You are lucky you were diagnosed so quickly.. took me many doctors and many trips to the hospital with dehydration.. the hospitals were not sympathetic either.. told me to drink more water.. that it was my fault for not drinking water.. heck no one can drink enough water to keep up with up to 19 adult diaper changes a day..not to mention the times I actually made it to the john in time.
The IBS diagnosis was prevalent and when the tried and true fiber treatments didn't work I was told I needed to see a shrink and get on meds.. it was all in my head!
Close to " a sod nap" family doc finally got me into a teaching hospital for the real diagnosis!

Morning Micky,
The plan you are going to use sounds fine to me and only being on it 3 weeks you should really have no problem. First I have heard of moon face with Entocort. I had to get off of it since it was giving me severe dizzy spells.
