Hi there sue,
My GI doctor suggested mesalamine as an option, if I stopped taking the budesonide. She then stated that most of her patients have not responded favorably to it. This is the same GI doctor who wanted me to take budesonide for just 2 months and then stated that my symptoms should be gone!!When I explained to her yesterday that I had stretched 7-8 days between my budesonide, she was surprised and I think a little taken aback that I did not follow her directions of taking it 1 a day.

I hope you continue to do well.

Hi Sue,

My CC was first diagnosed in October 2004 with a colonoscopy. That was confirmed again with my colonoscopy in March 2012. I had just lived with it for 8 years without doing anything, as none of the over the counter things worked well. Early this year I seemed to be living with daily abdominal pain, and bloating, etc. My condition was a lot worse at that time. Lots of tests were done. It was in May that I found this site, and I no longer felt so alone.

Has the Entocort helped? YES & NO. Right away it brought me out of the watery stage that I had been in for 8 years. The worst of the inflammation started going down. I had fewer episodes of abdominal pain. Am I back to normal? (if I can even recall what that was about 10 years ago) No!

In all honesty, I think the diet changes have probably helped as much, if not more, than the Entocort. Problem is, I'm still trying to fine tune the diet. And I must admit, that I have an occasional slip in the diet. Last night, at a restaurant, I had one teeny little roll with my filet mignon and steamed summer squash. My thought process was that the Entocort should carry me right past this one teeny little indiscretion. WRONG! When will I learn?

You are right! It is so sad the way this can take over our lives.

My GI doctor thinks that my abdominal pain is from spasms. He has given me Dicyclomine for that. At least that is something that I can just use as needed. So far I have only had to use 1 pill in the past 11 days, so that is good.

Back to the Entocort - side efects that I believe that I have encountered
- visual changes (my "new" eyeglasses from Feb 2012 are useless now; just had an eye exam this am and ordered new ones)
- unusual bruising (the slightest bump causes bleeding under my skin and it takes about 2 weeks for the horrible bruised areas to fade)
- possibly mood changes or depression (who wouldn't be depressed with this disease?)
- this last one is just a question. have no idea if it is related to meds. Does anyone else on Entocort seem to experience weird dreams with greater frquency?)

Please be aware that many can take Entocort with all good results and no side effects. I loved it at first. I am just anxious to taper off of it as advised and try diet alone. Five months on it is long enough. I especially want to see if that puts an end to the easy bruising. My big (85-90 pound) and lovable lab/golden retriever dog will occasionaly put a paw on my arm or leg to get my attention. He has no idea how I'll look the next day as a result. My arms look like a battlefield! This issue has only been happening in the past 3-4 weeks.

I have rambled on far too long.

Marion,

Just a thought about the bruising - easy bruising can be an early sign of scurvy (a shortage of vitamin C). Are you getting vitamin C as a supplement? People and guinea pigs are the only animals that can't manufacture their own vitamin C. If you, like me, are avoiding citrus, you may well not be getting anywhere near enough. I finally added 2000 mg of vitamin C a day, and I stopped bruising. My 16yo daughter, who could eat citrus but doesn't much, did the same, and both her bruising and her nosebleeds stopped. Might be worth a try if you're not getting vitamin C somewhere.

Hi Mim,

On one of your previous posts I believe you mentioned in passing something about the 81 mg aspirin. I'm not sure if you are currently taking it or not but NSAIDS can be problematic for us--ie can prevent healing.

Deanna and Brandy,

I probably do not get enough Vitamin C. I have been taking a multiple vitamin, but that only has 60 mg of it. I will get a supplement the next time I am in the store. I also checked on line for the foods with the most Vitamin C and will try to include more of them in my diet.
I did stop taking the aspirin (guessing about 2 weeks ago) because of the bruising.

Thank you both for the tips,

Marion
