Food poisoning. Entocort or no?
Hi All. I had a rough night last night... and this morning. I stupidly ate a nitrite free pork sausage that was way too old to eat. I knew it was old, but it smelled OK. DUMB! I started feeling nauseous before I even wen to bed at 11. Woke up at 2:30 running to the bathroom for painful WD. Thought I was done. At 3:00, I almost didn't make it in time for explosive vomiting. Went back to bed. Got back to sleep, but was awoken at 6 am by the need to throw up again.
Boy, do I feel awful right now. Glad my 8:00 client cancelled.
My question: I am not suppose to take a budesonide pill until tomorrow. Do I stick with this schedule, or take one hoping it will get the D under control? Or Is it better to let this run it's course? Could this episode lead to a long term flare?
I don't think I will be eating anything for a long while. I am sipping mint tea right now.

Hi Leah, I am so sorry your not feeling well. There is nothing worse than being up all night sick and then have to work the next day.
My thoughts on this are twofold.
First since it is most likely food poisoning I would want to let it clear itself out thoroughly, so the bodies defense mechanism of D is a good thing. If this does persist too long, you may need something like Imodium or even treatment with antibiotics to slow things down. Most of the time these things just have to run their course. Be sure to watch out for other complications that need attention such as fever or bloody stool
Next since your already having significant D that probably contains a lot of mucin, I doubt the Entocort would stay around long enough to do any good so why waste it.
I do hope you are feeling better soon

Dear Leah,
I agree with Joe. I have noticed that even a slightly old piece of bacon (that in my pre MC days I could handle easily) can set me off. Best to let our body get rid if it. I guess with MC we need to make sure food is as fresh as possible.
Hope you get through this soon. It so hard to deal with MC and keep going on the work front. Best wishes, Ant

Oh, I'm so sorry. All of us have probably had a similar experience. I will never again be able to eat conch chowder after getting sick from a bad batch.
I think Joe is right. Get it out of your system, drink as much fluid as you can and take it easy. Food poisoning really knocks you out. Ginger tea is good for settling your stomach, too.
Feel better

Hi Leah,
You poor dear! It sounds awful!
I have only had food poisoning once, and that was about 1964. I am recalling about 3 days of misery. I was so sick that I'll probably never forget it. My sympathies are with you. Don't rush the food part. Just try to stay hydrated with anything liquid that will stay down. And even with the liquids, just a few sips at a time, but fairly often.
Hope you have a speedy recovery!
