how long have we been consuming gmo crops??

Post by Gabes-Apg »

In researching the chemicals that my parents had contact with during the 1940's-1950's (which has come up via my chiro/kinesiology as being a toxin in my body) I came across this statement as to the origin of Agent Orange;

In 1943 plant biologist Arthur Galston began studying the compound triiodobenzoic acid as a plant growth hormone, in an attempt to adapt soybeans to a short growing season. Galston found that excessive usage of the compound caused catastrophic defoliation
in my mind, i thought modified crops only started in the late 1970's -1980's. interesting that scientists started playing around the crops much much earlier

GMO processes involve directly injecting foreign genetic material into an embryonic cell. Chemicals such as agent orange are applied to growing plants and they modify growth by means of hormonal changes in the growing plant. It's a completely different phenomenon.

I thought that GMO plants were first introduced in the 1990s. A lot of hybrids were developed during the prior decades, but that's a natural process that's accomplished simply by selective breeding to select for desired traits in the offspring.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Tex for the clarification....
so pre-GMO it was strong chemicals to modify crops

i also came across this article, i am trying to confirm when it was published....

if you needed a reason to give up diary......
Abstract
A survey of 198 milk samples from a wide cross-section of NSW was conducted over three years for pesticide residue assessment. Extraction of pesticides was achieved using an initial methanol-etherhexane extraction followed by partitioning with acetonitrile and hexane; cleanup was competed using an aluminium oxide chromatography technique. The final analysis was made at the part per billion level employing a dual gas liquid chromatographic system fitted with electron capture-tritium source detectors. Results indicated that background contamination levels were; DDT, dieldrin, BHC, lindane and heptachlor epoxide were present in amounts comparable with those reported in previous overseas surveys. However, the fungicide HCB was found in 12% of the samples, this being significant in that the only other survey to report HCB was a French survey in which the reported levels in cow's milk were higher than those now reported. It was also established, in agreement with overseas reports, that the primary source of contamination was through stockfeeds which had been treated with pesticides prior to feeding
HCB = hexachlorobenzene.....

Gabes,

I don't know that anybody in the U.S knows what's GMO and what's not. It's not listed anywhere...the law here protects farmers and manufacturers...How is it where you are? How do you know?
