below the sternum pain

Post by Leah »

Since recovering from my food poisoning, I am getting intermittent (pain after I eat) right in that soft spot below my sternum. Anyone know what this could be?

I had horrendous pain in that same spot about a year and a half ago. It went on for about 2 weeks and all my dr's said it was heartburn and or gastritis. I took zantac for the few weeks and then it went away. Who knows what it actually was...I hope you feel better!

It could be gastritis . I'm thinking that maybe my throwing up ( which is very acidy) irritated the area. I'm just eating small amounts at a tome right now. I think it is slowly easing up.

Thanks :)

Hi Leah, My GI doc told me the pain was gastritis. It scared the Hell out of me the first time it happened. It is the reason I stopped taking Celebrex. Severe pain is mid sternum, cold sweats, relieved a bit by burping etc. After about three episodes I took Tums just because it was in the medicine cabinet and I didn't know what else to do. It is the only antacid in the house. Unbelievably, it relieved the pain in a few minutes. I took it last just before an attack started and it seemed to stop it before it started. I seem to get an attack if I eat too much heavy food or if I have a particular wine (my favorite) and a lot of meat.

I hope it eases up, Leah.

Leah,
I have it almost constantly. PPIs (nexium) relieves it somewhat, but it comes back.

I both emphasize and sympathize. I hope it goes away for you soon!
