Yep, the Entocort is definitely working.
Sue wrote:Question: why is there mention of using the time while on Entocort to eliminate possible trigger foods? Why not experiment with diet while you're in the midst of the flare - is there any advantage to doing it while you're feeling good?
The suggestion to eliminate those foods while taking Entocort is so that a relapse will not occur when the Entocort is discontinued. The Entocort also masks the symptoms while "buying time" for enough healing to take place so that the diet changes can maintain remission.
This isn't really "experimentation" -- you just cut them out of your diet. It's a proven way to significantly increase the odds that a relapse will not occur when the Entocort is discontinued.
Actually, experimentation with diet during a flare is rarely productive, because we can't tell whether we're reacting to any given food if we have chronic D. In order to be productive, experimentation has to be done after we are in remission, and when we are not taking a drug that can mask the symptoms, because we have to be able to accurately and reliably interpret our response to any experimental foods or diet changes.
See the differences?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Yup, makes perfect sense. But then again everything always does right after you explain it.

Diagnosed November 2004, Used Asacol and Lialda, sometimes worked, sometimes made it worse. Entocort always works but hate it. Remission only lasts 3-6 months and then back on Entocort. Enterolab test July 2017, now gluten free. Time will tell!
I hate to disagree with Tex but in my case stopping coffee while in a flare actually *did* work for me almost immediately. It was a real "A-ha!" moment for me. However I still have problems now and then; I bet it's the almonds. I'll stop them and see if I have another "A-ha!" moment.
Hi Sue. The reason to eliminate inflammatory foods while on Entocort is to give your gut the best chance of healing. If you continue to eat these foods, then you will surely be back at square one once you are off of the meds ( which you will eventually have to do). Plus, it can take months to get the gluten out of your system. When you are at full dose, it's not an experimental stage -where you are testing foods because the drug will hide the effect of the food. When your dose gets down to about 1 pill a day is when you can start "testing" some of those "irritant" foods like salad and raw fruits and veggies. When I was at this lower dose is when I discovered I was reacting to soy .... at least, that's how i approached it.
Let us know how it goes

Hi Camie.
Are you saying you DID see the GI doc on July 27th, or did you mean to say "August" and that's when you are next going to see him?
I know what you mean about the food.... I have only been on Entocort for 4 days and I can't resist putting some "forbidden" foods into my mouth. I had a bowl of frozen mixed fruit (thawed, of course) yesterday and was in heaven. My husband asked me last night if I wanted him to go out and get me some fried clams (haven't had those in SOOOOO long) but I told him that would be pushing my luck and that I will wait a few more weeks before I indulge myself in a few of those. But oh, to eat a salad again would be heaven. Maybe a few bites this weekend?

Sue,
I understand completely!!!!!!!!! I know its meds and diet that ultimately heal the gut. But OMG since I stated the endocort and my stomach is quiet I have been feasting on all the forbidden foods I could not tolerate in the past. Absolute bliss! Ah salads! If my GI doc stops the endorcort well I will be out on the street looking for it! I doubt that it is a street drug! lol. Sorry not into Vicodan...........got any Endocort?????????? Take care. hugs
Hi Sue! So how is the Entocort working for you? Just curious. I just started Asacol....been on it a week.....no improvement yet. I hope I get as lucky as you on it. How long (if you remember) did it take for you to get relief with Asacol?
Also, how are you doing on the diet change? that's a tough one for me but trying.

Hi Terri.
The Entocort is helping a lot. I still am no where NEAR having any formed stools but I'm only going once or twice a day and they are never "urgent", or at least not urgent like they used to be. I get enough fair-warning to make it there somewhat comfortably.
When I restarted Asacol a few months ago I desperately tried to find my old posts from 8 years ago so I could remember how long the Asacol took to kick in but unfortunately this forum was on a different server 8 years ago and my beginning posts were lost. But I think I noticed a difference in about 2 weeks, if I recall.
I'm not really doing any diet change. I'm very stubborn about that and am hoping to have the same kind of wonderful luck as I did with Asacol.... I could eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and still have the best intestinal tract that I'd ever had in my life. That may or may not be possible this time around but right now, I'm not really doing any drastic diet changes... just cooling it with extreme fiber and raw veggies.
Good luck, and hopefully in another week you will be feeling WONDERFUL!
