Might have to reschedule Endoscopy and Colonoscopy
Well, guys, as I was preparing myself mentally for tomorrows clean out, my daughter, who's 20 mos, had a reaction to something she ate. Her tummy has been hurting and she's had bowel movements that has caused her to have welts on her little bottom. Normally she only does that w/strawberrys. So I'm still trying to figure out what on earth she ate today. She had an icee that was different flavor than she's tried before. Other than that, everything was foods that she's been okay with.
Anyway, my husband has to work tomorrow and I don't want to be running to the bathroom every 5 minutes with a sick baby. I won't be able to take care of her. Plus we have a new puppy. So I will probably have to reschedule for the end of the month and make sure my husband takes off the day before and the day of the procedure. Before I reschedule, I am going to see how she does in the morning. I don't actually start to drink the gunk until noon.
Just thought I'd share what happened with you guys. I would have rather done it and got it over with. Now I will have to mentally prepare myself all over again. Sigh...
Much love
Arlene

That's a difficult situation to be in. I wish you had someone who could help you out - do you have a relative or a girl friend who could take care of the toddler while you take care of yourself? I know you are mentally prepared for the procedure now - I'd hate to see you postpone it. The worst part is already over; all the worrying about how bad it will be.....
I hope you find a solution to these problems before noon tomorrow. I am wishing you all the best.
Love,
Karen

I definitely agree with you. Once I decide to go ahead and do something that I'm not looking forward to doing, I just want to get it over with. That probablyapplies to almost anyone.
I also agree that during the tests you have scheduled, you definitely would not be able to take care of a sick baby, so I think you have a good plan in mind. I wish you the best--maybe your daughter will be ok tomorrow.
Love,
Tex

I wish I did, Karen.
My girlfriend, Amy (who just had this procedure done) said she would come over and help. The problem is is that my daughter won't go to anyone else, much less while she's hurting or sick. So to hear her screaming while I'm going though all that would make it that much more stressful.
It's only a couple more weeks. I've lived through this for 1 1/2 years, two more weeks won't kill me, I suppose.
Much love
Arlene
PS Thanks Wayne. I hope she's better tomorrow too. Nothing's worse than when you're child is hurting or sick.

Oh, Arlene - I know it hurts you when your child is sick and hurting.
Perhaps you can ask your friend, Amy, to come and pick up the baby right before you have to leave for the hospital. Ask Amy to take your baby girl away - take her to Amy's house so you don't need to hear or see her until after you wake up in the recovery room.
You know your baby girl is going to be OK - they often stop screaming as soon as they can't see their parents anymore. And your girl friend is going to take good care of her while you take care of yourself.
I wish you weren't in this situation.
Wishing you a restful night.
Love,
Karen

Hi Arlene
What a tough position. Think your plan makes sense. Recoup after both would also involve sleep & you onviously couldn't do that with a sick little one. Wish you were closer so I could watch the little angel. I happen to be a great Babci!! Sending you both healing light. Love & light, Rita

Arlene, I think you should do whatever you feel comfortable doing. You are right about a couple more weeks not making too much difference.
Here's hoping your husband can schedule time off because I doubt you will feel up to taking care of your daughter. You will probably be very tired and sleepy after the procedure.

wow
Arlene, you have a LOT on your plate!!!!
A 20 mo. old (with allergies, no less), a PUPPY, AND colitis??? Ok, I have kids, but they're OLDER (5 and 6) and play with each other so they require less of my direct attention.. I can't imagine, especially with a puppy (adorable but also require a LOT of time and attention!)..
So is your daughter better today? Still planning on rescheduling or are you fired up to go?
Maybe we should develop a neighborhood somewhere. We could all live there. Colitis Circle. That way we could just get together for tea and snacks and chat it up, and depend on each other. Ok, so it'll never happen, but it's nice to dream :)

Hi Arlene,
I hope your daughter is better now. Are you still going to reschedule your procedure? That would be tough, but it sounds like you have a lot going on right now. I hope you can get that colonoscopy over as soon as possible. I have had three of them...I was asleep with the 1st...awake and uncomfortable with the 2nd.....and awake, but not really uncomfortable with the last one.
I was very afraid before the 1st one, but not after that. I'm just trying to say that I built them all up in my mind to be much worse than they actually were! I hope this helps...to make you not worry so much.
Love, KathyP

Arlene,
Oh, the joys of "Motherhood". And a new puppy to boot?
Bummer you had to reschedule- I know you have been mentally preparing yourself for the procedure Friday. You will be all the more prepared in a couple weeks, right?
As was mentioned, kids in general will stop crying and be okay once the parent leaves. They are funny little creatures and learn to be manipulative very early in life. I can't tell you the amount of times I've had to reschedule plans because one of my children were sick. I still do and my daughter is 11. (SIGH)
Hope your babe is doing better today.
Love,
Joanna

Well, I did have to reschedule. We ended up going to the ER around 1 am. She had horrible welts. Screamed most of the night. It was strawberries. I felt like such a terrible mother! I knew she had an allergy because she broke out twice before, after eating strawberries. But I gave her strawberry milk without realizing it. My 6-yr old son asked for some and she was crying for the same thing. I was distracted by someone I was talking to on the phone and gave her the strawberry milk instead of her apple juice. I didn't realize it at first. It was while I was in the ER, checking in, that I realized what I had done.
We're set for the day of the colonoscopyas far as sitters. The day I needed help with was the day before while I was cleaning myself out. I wouldn't be able to run to the bathroom every 5 minutes and take care of her (Faye) too and my son (plus a new pup).
By the way Christine when you wrote, "That way we could just get together for tea and snacks and chat it up, and depend on each other." Don't you mean loan each other Depends? HA
By the way everyone, she is better. I took her to our Pediatrician and she gave her some ointment that's supposed to be better than the hydrocordisone.
Thanks for the support everyone.
Much Love
