Stunning new research about older fathers - autism, etc.

Post by Zizzle »

My jaw just dropped when I read this breaking news article from the NY Times. Rock-solid evidence that paternal sperm gene mutations may be responsible for 30% of autism cases, plus schizophrenia and other ailments. Our culture has long suspected aging mothers as the risk factor for kids, but it makes sense that our eggs don't change that much over time. Sperm is constantly replicating and making errors as genes mutate. I'm in a suburb of DC with lots of high-achiever parents who have kids in their 40's, with dads sometimes in their 50s and 60s. The rates of autism, ADHD, food allergies, etc, among this population are frightening.

At last men can't rest thinking they can sow their wild oats and settle down later in life with a younger wife. They are the problem!!

I just told my immature almost 40 yr old brothers-in-law they should cold-store their sperm now...LOL

WAKE UP CALL!!! Sorry boys!

I always suspected that sperm had an expiration date so I was not surprised to read this article on Autism. Thanks for sharing this Zizzle.

Pretty enlightening and agree with Cory on the expiration date for sperm. Freeze it guys!

I'm not surprised. There has been a lot of news about the fact that older men can affect any child they have as much as a woman can. However, the autism, schizophrenia connection is very surprising.

Nice to see men get "blamed" for a change... just kidding.. BUT... it has been my experience that mother in law gets blamed for everything that goes wrong health wise in sons and grandkids...
