Colonoscopy in the morning...
Hey guys,
I am finally getting a colonoscopy and endoscopy done tomorrow morning after a long wait! I'm pretty nervous about it, because I really want them to find what's causing me all these problems so that I can treat it and get back on the right track. While I don't want to have anything, I'm also worried that they won't find anything and I'll be back at square one being told I have IBS and they can't help me again. Even if they don't find anything though, I will be sending off my tests to enterolab on Monday which should give me a good starting point on where to go with my diet. I will update as I get results!

Best wishes Amber, the prep is far worse than the colonoscopy, that part is easy. Whatever they do or do not find, at least you will have some answers. Sometimes in dealing with diseases like this it takes a while to get all of the tests and then treatments you need.
Remember that the colonoscopy is only looking at the large intestine, not the small intestine and there are various conditions that can start in the small intestine that cause D. Overall whether they find anything or not certainly pursue a diet that works best for you....most of the time common sense is the best medicine anyway, taking control of our health is the best medicine of all and that includes things like diet as well as taking control of our attitudes and our outlook.
Take care

Well, I just got back from the colonoscopy/endsocopy and the doctor said everything pretty much looks good, so they are just thinking IBS. They took biopsies from both my small and large intestine so I do have to wait for them to look at those. If it is just IBS though I will definitely be taking things into my own hands and looking into finding the right diet and supplements for me. I feel like I've tried everything, but maybe there's still something I'm missing.

Amber I'm glad the procedure is over. Remember that they cannot tell what's going on by just looking during the procedure ....they need to look at the biopsy samples under a microscope for a true diagnosis, this is why it's called (MC) Microsopic Colitis. I hope your doctor took enough samples as this can be hard to pinpoint at times as it does not present in all areas of the bowels equally .
Overall no matter what the result is, the best medicine is you taking control of your own health. A careful diet looking for the foods that bother you is the best first step to achieving health.
Start by eliminating gluten soy and dairy for a few months and then see how you are doing , you may be able to reintroduce some of these later, but to achieve relief the quickest this is the best route.
Have you taken either the Enterolab or MRT testing?

Thanks everyone!
I am actually sending my tests in to enterolab on Monday to look at gluten, dairy, soy, and egg sensitivities, so I'm definitely looking forward to those results because I've been suspicious of soy for a while, but I've never completely given it up since it is in everything. I also got the celiac and gluten sensitivity gene panel because even though I was diagnosed with Celiac during my last endoscopy, my doctor recently changed his mind and said I don't have Celiac, so I thought the gene test would finally give me a definitive answer on that.

Amber,
It's good to hear that you don't have Crohn's or UC. Doctors who change their minds and undiagnose celiac disease, clearly don't know what they are doing.
IBS is a "disease" that exists only in the minds of gastroenterologists who have problems diagnosing the true cause of patients' symptoms.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Amber!
YAY! It's over! The others are correct - diagnosis can only be made by the pathologist who looks at the biopsy slides, NOT by the GI doc during colonoscopy.
I'll look forward to hearing about your Enterolab tests.
Hugs,
Polly

I agree Tex! My mom couldn't understand why I was upset with the GI for telling me it looks like IBS, but I just don't think that IBS really exists, and even if it does I've tried all of the medication for it but nothing has helped. I'm supposed to get my test results on Wednesday, so I'm anxiously awaiting those, and I just put my samples for enterolab in the mail, so I will keep everyone updated on the results!
