antihistamines every day? safe? necessary?

Post by Leah »

Hi all. I thought I would rephrase my questions about taking antihistamines. The Claritin works great at giving me normans finally, but I'm not sure I need to or want to take it every day forever. Should I only be taking it when i feel the classic allergy symptoms? Or should I try it like every other day.... less? Help!

Hi Leah,
I have found these topics interesting since I have taken Zyrtec everyday for years due to sinus issues. I don't see that it does anything for my D but it does help my sinuses. Kinda thinking about trying the Claritin for a bit to see if that helps my mucus issues as well as my D issues. I have been showing decreased episodes since the weekend when I went to 5guys Burgers and Fries but still have D at least 2 times a day. I actually see doc tomorrow for the first time since she put me on pepto treatments 8 weeks ago. I'm hoping to get switched to endocort that you all talk about because even though I've seen a decrease after going GF.....I am still having D everyday. Since the GF started the number of times has decreased tremendously though and maybe Claritin can help as well.
thanks
Cathy

I've been taking Claritin-D every day for years for sinus / ear blockage issues. Doesn't seem to be a problem but apparently it doesn't do anything beneficial for my colitis since I had a flare a few months ago (that has just ended thanks to Entocort).

Diagnosed November 2004, Used Asacol and Lialda, sometimes worked, sometimes made it worse. Entocort always works but hate it. Remission only lasts 3-6 months and then back on Entocort. Enterolab test July 2017, now gluten free. Time will tell!

Maybe it has been helping to control your MC symptoms for all those years, but you finally developed a tolerance for it a few months ago and so it stopped working.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
