Concerning A Link To The Book

Post by tex »

Hi All,

A couple of members have suggested that there should be a link available to provide easy access for anyone who wants to buy my book. As you know, I intensely dislike ads (they're very distracting), so I've always tried to keep this site ad-free. I can see where it might be helpful for newbies especially, since it would probably take much less time for them to read the book in order to learn all the basic info about this disease and the treatment options that are available, rather than to scan all the archives searching for similar information here. And of course, there's information and references in the book that is either not posted here, or very difficult to find.

The biggest advantage would probably be that we could all save a lot of time answering basic questions from newbies on the board, and instead, the questions may evolve to be more interesting, and more complex. Wait a minute — I'm not sure that's an advantage. LOL. Anyway, what is your opinion. Should we post a link (or links), or not?

It's your call.

Hi Tex, What a precious gift you have given to us and so many who have suffered and will suffer from mc. So many lives will be touched and healed because you have shared your intelligence, wisdom, experience, compassion, and time
to bring about this book. I remember how lost and scared I was until I found you and this site. Please provide a link for the book-it will be the lifeline everyone desperately needs and looks for when they're diagnosed with mc.
I ordered the paperback version and can't wait to get it. :bigbighug:

Tex
firstly CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your baby!! :stork-baby: the book!!!
(with some of the very minor formatting issues, i musnt have sent you enough candy to get you through the final process)
I cant wait to check it out!

i dont see that providing a link - ie near the recommended doctors tab would or could be interpreted as an advert.
For years to come, in our replies to discussions, the book written by Tex will be continuely referenced.

And i think you should duplicate the post in the 'info for newbies tab' again it is not an advert, it would be offering a fantastic resource for those that come to the forum seeking help either for themselves or for a family member that has MC.

I too think the book should be mentioned somewhere, it will be great to have so much info at hand but I remember SOOOOOOO well what comfort it was to get my first reply from you when I was a newbe, I remember almost bursting into tears thinking someone else understood this horrid disease and CARED!!!!!!!!! To me that first letter was the start of the healing process, I couldnt beleive anyone could give so much time to explain so patiently to a stranger with no knowledge out of pure compassion,I was in a very dark place and you switched on the light, thank you, I am sure you will continue with your welcome and advise to the newbies, the book will be invaluable but the way you almost physicaly reach out at the start of the journey cant be measured, Beni

I should have my copy in paperback by Saturday and I can't wait.

YES! Please provide a link and I don't think it would be construed as advertising. It can be the bible for newbies and we oldies.

Dear Tex,

A link would provide information that is 100% relevant to people coming to the site seeking support and knowledge. It is not a hard "sell" but, on the contrary, adds to the usefulness of the site.

I also do not think its sets a precedent. There are already within various postings here links to websites that provide relevant/useful services (that can lead to some payment to those providing the service). They are, however, (and this is a crucial distinction) not paid for ads or put up by a paid salesman coming on to sell. They are natural recommendations from members. You book is surely the most natural recommendation of members.

IMO, good places for links would be Newbies and Treatment discussions,

Best wishes, Ant

Let me add my .02 cents...of course, what kind of a question is that? I went crazy trying to find it. When I googled I got a Wayne Perske, with an e and Amazon didn't have yours on colitis.

You have to make it easier for us (and others) to find you!

We appreciate you being humble and considerate but sometimes being pragmatic should trump everything else

OK, I'll add some links in hopefully easily-found, yet unobtrusive places, as soon as I get the digital version of the book reformatted so that it works optimally.

I appreciate everyone's input. Many thanks,
Tex

Yes,yes, yes. A link to the site for ordering the book would certainly help the newbies as well as the "oldies".

When I was diagnosed I had little idea I would be traveling such a twisted path. The book may shock newbies with the reality of life with MC, but it would also be a wonderful resource.

Go for it, Tex. Thank you once again

The first thing I did was look for your link to order the book. I couldn't find a link and thought, that's just like Tex, not wanting to toot his own horn. On not finding a link, I went on Amazon and couldn't find an author named TEX lol! I finally found your book and can't wait to turn the pages on it. I like to highlight relevant sections and stuff like that. Please, please put a link to your book on this website because it's like our Potty People bible. First edition, collector's item too! I have been looking but have not seen where you answered the question about the dead tree on the cover. Is it a symbolic representation of our intestines stripped of Villa? :phone:

Hi Tex, Since I started reading the book on my ipad I have noticed the odd configuration. The words "Alphabetical Index" are at the top of the pages along with the numbers 290 and 291 here and there, no page numbers but that is similar to a Kindle book and I haven't figured out a way to go to a particular topic or page without a lot of back and forth.

So far, it's wonderful. I decided to read it from the beginning and I wish I had this book as a reference when I was diagnosed.

Hi Cory,

I had to search for my answer, but I finally found it on the third page of the TEX - YOU DID IT!!! thread where Zizzle asked about it. I copied it here:
Well, based on an idea that I believe Joe gave me some time back, I originally planned to show the worst food sensitivities feeding into the roots, the environmental factors (such as stress, ethnic diet, etc.) and medical constraints and effects such as genetics, mast cells and leaky gut, etc., on the trunk, and celiac disease, MC, the other IBDs, and various autoimmune diseases coming out of the dead branches. Rosie pointed out that was way too "busy", though (and I certainly couldn't argue that point). LOL.

She convinced me that simple is better and most people would get the general meaning, once they read the book.
Basically, it's supposed to suggest that bad stuff in our diet leads to all sorts of disease, as it slowly robs us of our life (or our ability to enjoy life). Or something like that.
