belly dancing (really) or corn tortillas?
I have two burning questions that I wouldn't dare ask anywhere else other than this forum. And since I am surrounded by all these beautiful minds and people, I will shamelessly ask them.
I suffer from nausea (Carolm suggested acupuncture and it has been a miracle). So I had this wonderful week with no nausea and I felt so good I resumed my belly dancing activity which I engage in a couple of times a week. The following day my nausea returned big time. Since I am on the elimination diet I blamed the corn tortillas I ate the previous day. My niece thinks it is the belly dancing. It makes sense to me since the whole activity centers around the core and hips...I am (almost) certain that this question has never been raised on this forum :-) and anyone who wants to pipe in, feel free!
The other question is when I eat something that I am sensitive to, how long does it take before I know which food caused the discomfort-- a day, two days? Since my nausea always starts in the morning after BM, how do I know?
Thanks a million for seriously considering my belly dancing question :-) Only on this forum!!!!! Love you guys for all your dedication, activism and generosity.

Hmm...that's a tough one. My guess is the tortilla may have gluten cross-contamination, or you just don't process corn well (few of us do). But I suppose it's possible that lots of ab work could stimulate the inflammed intestines, or even jar them out of place a little. I know I rarely do core exercises because they send me to the bathroom! You may be on to something.
As far as the time it takes to know you ate something you don't tolerate, we're all different. I used to get hugely bloated within 20 minutes of eating gluten or dairy. Now it takes a couple of hours for me to notice the bloating and soon run to the bathroom. The next day is the big bathroom day with lots of D until it's all gone.

Hi Z.,
Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate you sharing your experience. It makes complete sense that I may have jarred things out...I had corn tortillas before but didn't have such an adverse reaction. I better stay away from both until i can sort these things out. The safest thing to do...

Hi Leah,
I guess the way to test the tortillas (or anything made of corn) is to eat some and wait like 3 days and see what happens...right?

Hi Brandy,
Yes, the majority is on corn. I am skipping corn products from now on and will try belly dancing in a couple of weeks and if that comes back then maybe it might be that too, or even both.
I am impressed that you are managing your condition with glutamine and occasional pepto. No toxic meds...I hope to get there one day soon. Right now on the elimination diet...with entocort and mesalamine, unfortunately. I am doing daily acupuncture for the nausea.
Thanks for your reply. Appreciate it.

Interesting about the corn tortillas. I make corn tortilla "pizzas" every Friday for dinner and every Saturday I don't feel well either during the day or at bed time; I never thought of gluten cross-contamination! On Saturday we barbeque and I have an ear of corn. Might be time to do the Enterolab test with the longer list of foods.
Tex, I don't remember if I reported my first Enterolab test results to you. Gluten was 11, casein was 9, eggs were 7, and soy was 3. Yeast was negative.

Marcia,
Thanks. I assume that implies that I have your permission to add them to our list. If not, please let me know and I will remove them.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi, Did you use a corn tortilla to make a taco with cheese, tomatoes, onions and lettuce? After checking out a mexican restaurant for the ability to make a gluten-free taco was to use a corn tortilla. I had to check his cooking methods and the ingredients he used in order to recommend his food to the members of the local gluten-free support groups. Whenever, I would get a salad it did not take long before the pain started, it made for an very uncomfortable meal. So, I decided no more salads and had the tacos instead. Before, I left the same pain returned. The common food source was the lettuce. The next time I ordered the tacos I ordered them the without the lettuce and had a pain free dinning experience. The roughness of the lettuce must have irritated the G.I tract because of the inflammation. Since that time I have not had any lettuce. The inflammation is better, but I still will not have any.

Yes, Gluten, I did have a leaf of butter lettuce and a slice of baby swiss with it along with the other stuff in the fried rice. I find that when I try a salad I pay for it in a few hours. I sure hope I can still eat tacos - mild tacos, that is. I think I had a salad and tacos on Thursday and paid for it Thursday night. Don't know what happens on Saturdays yet and I don't eat anything unusual on Fridays - not even salad.
Thanks!
Thanks!
