Dear Tex,

Just checked out Amazon. For the printed book version it now says
Out of Print--Limited Availability.
(I am fine since my order is already being shipped)

But.....does this mean demand is now outstripping supply! (Bit like new Apple launches, have you created "demand tension"?) If this is true it is a good sign for sales, but new printing may be required quickly.......

Best, Ant

I wish. LOL. No, actually it means that I uploaded a corrected PDF file yesterday, to remove an error I found (a missing reference address), and a couple of unnecessary spaces. They go through the entire review process if anything is changed, and that takes from 24 to 48 hours before I can approve a proof again, to restart the publishing process (fortunately, I can do it digitally, so it only takes a few minutes after they notify me that all is well).

While doing all the reformatting for the digital version, I found another reference problem, and a couple of missing periods at the ends of chapters, so I may upload a corrected file one more time before getting all my ducks in a row. LOL. These are minor issues, but I would rather get them out early on, rather than to just let them run forever.

Sorry for the confusion,
Tex

My copy of the book arrived today here in Northern Ireland and I have already read Chapter 1!! It is brilliant - straight forward to read and I am engrossed! Thank you so much for having the vision, patience and determination to write it! Both my GP and my Consultant will be getting a copy in their Christmas stockings!!

Thanks Tex and Polly. Yes, I understand that IBS is not a disease. For the future, when I am trying to help people with intestinal stress through diet and/or medication control, I was wondering how much of what we do as MCers helps their conditions. If they don't know if there is inflammation, then it's hard to know what the culprit is, huh?

Another thought on IBS and inflammation, I like your IBS definition Tex. My son suggested the following definition when they tried to tell me I had sudden onset IBS:

I b.s.

I insisted on a real dx and found LC.

My sister has had "IBS" for 5 years now--coming on suddenly one day. She tried to get a colonoscopy but gave up because no doctor seemed concerned. After I was diagnosed, found this board, and learned what was really wrong with me and how to be tested (what a service from everyone here), she realized that her IBS tracked foods too, especially milk. She has now given up gluten and milk and the "IBS" is way better. She still doesn't want to be tested. Everyone has their own approach.

Thanks for the explanation, Tex, and I see on Amazon the book version is back in stock.

On the subject of IBS (or T's son's excellent interpretation "I Bull S#@^t") Perhaps it can be highlighted in reviews that, in addition to all people DXed with an IBD, this is a "must read" for all those who have been told they have chronic "IBS". I will do a review, but obviously not until I have read the book which given post half way round the world may be a couple of weeks yet.

Congratulations Tex!

I was a little slow getting to Amazon to order, so now I'll have to wait until they have done another printing. I will keep checking for availability. Looking forward to owning a copy. I guess I am still old fashioned enough that I want the paperback version. At the present time, I do not have a Kindle.

Hi Marion,

Both versions are up and running this morning, after updates (hopefully the last one), over the weekend. I agree with you, the printed versions seem easier and more satisfying for me to read and to use as a reference book (and no batteries are needed. LOL). The main advantage the digital version has is live links in the table of contents to instantly take you to the chapter selected, and the references in the back of the book are listed as live links so that clicking on them will instantly take you to that internet site (assuming that you have internet access available wherever you happen to be).

EDIT: Oops! I guess I was too optimistic. The printed version is available, but for some reason or other, the Kindle version is taking forever to republish. :sigh:

Dee,

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I wish I could sub for you, because I would dearly love to see you finish that book, but I have no doubt that I wouldn't last two days before my butt would be dragging out my tracks.

Tex, how do I get the links in the book to work on my iPad? Is it possible to download the updated kindle version?

Sheila,

They don't work in the original version. Nor does clicking on one of the chapters in the table of contents automatically take you to the chapter that you selected. I was naive enough to think that the Kindle conversion software would automatically convert all URLs into live links (the way the software that operates this discussion board does). Unfortunately, their conversion software leaves a lot to be desired, so I had to reformat the entire book for the Kindle version.

The upgraded version that's available now, works properly (I think), but unfortunately, for some strange reason, Kindle doesn't make it easy to download an upgraded version (or redownload an obsolete version, for that matter). At least they don't go to any great length to advise customers on how to go about it. It can be done, but apparently one has to know how to go about it.

I tracked down an explanation of how to do it and posted it in another thread, for Joe. He also has an iPad, so if he is able to do it, then hopefully he'll be able to tell us exactly how to go about it. Here is copy of the post that contains the links:
Joe,

Here's one way to go about redownloading a book from Kindle:

http://www.simplehelp.net/2011/01/30/ho ... er-device/

You should be able to do it as described on this Amazon help page:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/ ... =200875610

Hopefully by the weekend I'll have the final version uploaded and active.
Both versions are now up to date and available, but I don't know if Joe (or anyone else) has had a chance to try to redownload it.

If you aren't able to successfully download an upgraded copy, then I'll just have to refund your money so that you can buy a copy of the new version, because IMO, the original version sucks, but it didn't dawn on me to take it offline in time to prevent at least 9 or 10 copies from being downloaded. :sigh:

Thanks, Tex for the info. Don't even think about refunding anything for the book. It is a great resource, regardless.

Hopefully, Joe will be able to figure out how to redownload the book. If not, that's okay. I have accidentally deleted a few books on my Kindle and it is easy to get them back again. Maybe there is a simple way to get the updated version.
