Can a hot dog be a healthy/paleo food choice?

Post by Deb »

I have tried these hot dogs and thought they were good though salty. Apparently because they are uncured the salt is added as a preservative but Applegate is working on a lower sodium version, if they can do it safely. They are grass fed, casein and gluten free, and no fillers. They cost $4.99 at Trader Joes.

These have been a staple in my house for many years. I keep them around mostly for my granddaughter who only eats what she eats but I like them too and have been known to eat them even when she isn't here.

I think Dr. Cordain would say hot dogs of any kind are not in the spirit of paleo. However, I have had them and I do buy them for my son. I personally don't eat them often because the amount of protein they contain is low when you consider how many caloreis you are consuming. But nothing tastes better than a dog on the grill with lots of sauerkraut.

I had to smile about "the spirit of paleo". I don't think I have that yet!
